He drives around, all over the town...
No mention of his great work in "The Naked Gun"...

A spokeswoman for the Boston Red Sox says Gowdy, who was 86, died in Palm Beach, Florida after a battle with leukemia.
Gowdy, the long time "Voice of the Red Sox," made his broadcasting debut in 1944.
In 1951 Gowdy became main play-by-play voice on the Boston Red Sox broadcast team. He left the Red Sox in 1966 for a ten-year stint as Game of the Week announcer for NBC. He was also the long time host of the "American Sportsman" series.

ESPN's tribute to Gowdy tonight showed a brief clip and his call of O.J.'s 80 yard run against the Bucks in the 1969 Rose Bowl. That's my first memory of Gowdy, and the game when I became a certified Buckeye fanatic.

Gowdy worked for a long time and was present at some great moments in sports. Condolences to his family and friends.

That being said, from what I saw and heard of him in my lifetime, I thought the guy was a total hack. I'm 43, and the memory that I'll always have of Gowdy was his constant butchery of Randy "Grand"ishar's name in the 1973 Rose Bowl. He was terrible with names and identifying players. At times, it seemed he had no idea who was playing in the game he was broadcasting until he arrived at the stadium. I can't for the life of me remember who he was pimping up one game, but actaually stated that this person was going to be on "The Tomorrow Show after The Tonight Show tomorrow."
