Head Coach
'07 Recruiting Looking good, all offers now listed in first page.

Ohio looks to be loaded with some nice talent.

- Two nice QB's in Smith and Belton

- There is major depth with WR/CB/RB type athletes like Torrence, Evenge, Mabin, Williams, Gamble, Herron, Saine, Arnold, Rucker, Jefferson and sure there are more to come

-OL - not sure yet, but I am sure there are some nice prospects out there.

- DL looks to be loaded, there is Martin, D'andrea, Williams.

- LB not sure as of right now

- The safety position looks to have more talent than we have seen in 2 or 3 years. There is Dailey, Oliver, Clifford, Glover, Sturdivant, Hinds, and many more. A couple of these guys could move to LB tho.

Then you have all the OOS guys that have already recieved offers.

Guys like Ogelsby, Stephens(should get one soon, IMO), O'Dowd, Benn, Barksdale, Allen, Johnson, Washington, and Blankenship.

I know it is real early but if we get two guys from that list especially Ogelsby and maybe one more to go along with a full class of our instate guys, and then add in some more that we get along the way, we could be seeing a very high quality class.

That is why the staff will not reach this year just to fill spots b/c there is a ton of talent next year.

QB/DB Eric Berry GA
RB Dale Martin IL
RB Brandon Saine OH*
WR Arrelious Benn D.C.
WR Junior Hemmingway SC
TE Jordan Hammond FL
TE Mike Ragone NJ
OL Josh Oglesby WI
OL Kris O'Dowd AZ
OL Evan Blankenship PA
DE Ben Martin OH
DT Joseph Barksdale MI
LB Chris Colasanti MI
CB/RB Donnie Evege OH
DB Nate Oliver OH
DB/WR Eugene Clifford OH
DB/WR Phelon Jones AL
DB/WR Dionte Allen MI
DB/WR Ronald Johnson MI
DB Ahmad Black FL
S Major Wright FL
WR Deonte Thompson FL

Our last two years including this year have been relatively small when it comes to the number or incoming recruits. There does seem to be a ton of talent out there, hopefully we can keep the key guys in-state away from Michigan and Notre Dame, especially Martin the kid from Cincy, and Clifford... Things also sound really promising with Ogelsby. Your right, there are a ton of talented corners/wide recievers out there that have great speed.

How many scholarships do you think we fill next year? Maybe in the mid-20s?

Not sure on an exact number but I believe something like this year 17-19. The classes of 20 or more kids will be few and far between with Tressel. He likes to keep things balanced.

19x4 = 76; 85-76 = 9 So once you figure in redshirts which is usally about half the class you subtract 9 from that and you get the magic number 85. We would have to have a lot of kids drop out for us to get into the mid 20's and with the type of kids we seem to be recruiting we are not going to see a lot of that. Which is why we will never have a number 1 recruiting class b/c they go more by quantity than quality, but does quantity really matter when you recruit 5 running backs and 6 dt in the same class. Yeah they might be good players, but a lot of them arent going to see the field and will take up ships.

It's looking pretty good for my team- Michigan, as well.

I think Michigan could get very early committments from these 5 players:

QB- Ryan Mallett (it's going to be between Ark. and Mich.)
DB- Ronald Johnson (only team that could pull him from Mich. is Texas)
DB- Dionte Allen (he'll be a Wolverine- I'm 90% sure of it- 99.9% on it if his cousin, Aaron Gant committs to Michigan)
DL- Joseph Barksdale (Barksdale loves Michigan, but he also likes the Florida schools, Texas, and USC)
WR- Junior Hemingway (he's very high on Michigan, Scot Loeffler has been by his school alot- if Michigan nabs Mallett, it could push Hemingway over the top)

Yeah the state of Michigan has some nice talent next year, we have 3 offers out to guys already, Allen, Johnson, and Barksdale. We will take one of them from ya.

Ive heard from multiple sources that Allen is 100% Wolverine, along with his cousin. I havent heard of Hemingway. However that DT from Detroit Class Tech(same school as Vernon Gholston) is a very real possibility, and would be a huge get. Ive noticed an increasing interest in OSU from Michigan prospects the last couple of years, most likely because of our recent success.

Well it looks very good with Torrence, Dailey, Gamble, D'Andrea and Williams if they have grades. All should be top 100 guys(maybe not Williams). Also good with Sturdivant and Jefferson if offered. The battles in-state will probably be with Clifford, Oliver, Hubbard, Arnold, Martin, and possibly Hinds. OOS recruiting is looking much better early than last year. Oglesby, Blankenship, and O'Dowd all offered and high interest in us, so we look good on the front. I'm sure a name or two will pop up in Ohio(Whetterer or Wade?). At QB, I doubt we go OOS unless a stud is dying to come here with Smith + Belton. Runningback is absolutely stacked instate with Williams, Mabin, Herron, Saine, and Edmunds. Good news here is our #1 priority at RB Bradley Stephens from Texas will decide before the summer is over, so we will be able to assess our situation on offers to Ohio RB's. Ideally, we pick up Stephens and Morgan Williams has the grades and gets picked up as well. If not I think Herron or Mabin gets the offer. I think we won't need to go OOS with all the talent in Ohio at D-Line unless some big name pops up. I'm sure we will go after Barksdale hard though. At LB we might go OOS after we pick up Dailey and go after Hinds from what it looks like now. 08' will be loaded in-state though with the 2 St. X LB's and the LB from Trace. OOS all we have so far that I know of is Campbell from Md. who is a pre-rivals top 100 and the Minnesota LB. At DB we wouldn't have to go OOS but since Johnson and Allen have some interest, we will pursue. We have Evege(offer), Torrence(will get one), Arnold(may be a tough get), Rucker, Oliver, and Clifford(sounding better than before). At WR we likely go OOS besides Jefferson as a possibility. Look Deonte Thompson here. Overall, things are looking good for 07'.:osu:

Forgot about Deonte Thompson, There is also a lineman from Belle Glades that is a D-I prospect.

We are in on top notch talent right now, hopefully we bring in a very very good class next year.

Also keep in mind Quincy Landingham. He is a RB prospect from Michigan that is a Bucks fan so we will see if he can garner and offer.

Nice. I forgot about him. I think it will come down to OSU and Florida for his signature. He might be the top player in all of Florida and top reciever in the entire nation next year, hopefully Dukes can help bring him up north to Columbus. We are in on a ton of talent for the '07 class, whats the word on that Hines kid at Glenville?

Well not sure about Hines since he is not originally from Cleveland, but being on that team and the Glenville to Ohio st. connection can only help our chances.

Word is that Thompson out ran Percy Harvin for the fastest 40 time at a camp last summer, and he works out with Dukes and Holmes and he is related to HOlmes. Right now I like our chances.

We also need Grad to work on his prospect he has at his school.

Is Hines more of a QB or Athlete at the next level? Thompson is blazing fast, Ive heard that he regularly runs in the 4.2's.

Who is the prospect at Grad's school?

Actually, Hinds IS originally from Cleveland. He moved to Georgia at some point, and moved back this summer. He grew up a Florida fan, but if OSU offers (they will), he's a Buck!

Hines will be a LB most likely(really stood out at LB this year). He will be splitting time at QB with Sturdivant next year. Reportedly likes Florida(originally from Georgia) but has definite interest in us. Give him another year here and we will be in decent shape, but it will be a battle for him. Thompson will probably be the fastest prospect in the country next year. Unbelievable speed.

Well this is good news, and Hinds will be a S/LB recruit, much like Dailey from Massilon.

Grad had a post in the open discussion about a prospect from his school getting a letter from scUM and other schools. I just like to mess with him and tell him he needs to get him to come here.
