Internet group 'Anonymous' is targeting Scientology

In response to alleged abuse of copyright law by the Church of Scientology International, an international organization calling itself Anonymous has declared war.

When an internal video featuring Tom Cruise discussing the virtues of Scientology was leaked over the internet, the Church of Scientology attempted to have the video removed from websites by filing cease-and-desist notices alleging copyright infringement.

?The video of Mr Cruise is a pirated, edited video that is taken from a three-hour event which encompassed the many humanitarian programs sponsored by the Church of Scientology,? said public affairs director Karin Pouw in an interview with media magazine This Is London.

In addition to copyright infringement, website Gawker.com was sent a notice alleging several other charges including theft, receiving stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen goods.

Anonymous, a group consisting of hackers, activists and miscellaneous internet users, declared ?war? against the leaders of the Church of Scientology after the notice was published.
