Craig Powell and the 1995 draft (split from recruiting)

Craig Powell???

I remember Craig and he was a good linebacker at Ohio State.

What I remember most was that Craig Powell was who (then Browns coach) Belichick drafted when the Jets drafted Kyle Brady right out from under him. Legend has it that he went ape shit in the "War Room" and Powell was the lucky recipient of a Browns first round pick. Bill had no back up plan in case Brady wasn't available and...voila...Craig Powell was drafted by the Browns...never to be heard from again.

IIRC, the Browns had two first round picks that year and Powell was their second pick. Can someone who knows for sure, verify. Wasn't it also the year that they passed on Warren Saap because of his pot smoking incident?

For some reason, it occurs to me that he went 28th or 29th. I'll check that.

EDIT - Drat! 30th. It was the only pick of the 1st round for the Browns. They later took Eric Zeier in the 3rd round.

Back to Johnson. From everything I'm reading, it sounds like this young man has the potential to be a very good linebacker. Here's hoping that his academics are in order and he becomes a Buckeye.

I can't find a good site that has all the trades that were made during the draft, but it was the 1995 draft where Powell was picked 30th overall. Brady was 9th. Sapp was 12th, Galloway 8th, Stringer 24th.
