Thanks for the tips. I likely would have forgotten about the shots and crap I am going to need to get.

So, on Taca airlines (from El Salvador or Guatemala or something) I can fly to San Jose, Costa Rica, then to Honduras, then back all for $800. Not bad. . .

I am starting to wonder if I am trying to pack too much in, and may switch to all one country, but the plan goes:

Go to San Jose, then bus to Monteverde. Do zip lines/horses/volcano/crunchy crap. Live in a hut. Five days.

Back to San Jose and fly to La Ceiba,Honduras. Take puddle-jumper to tiny island of Utila, Honduras. Scuba dive for five days, then back to La Ceiba and then to home.

Hopefully getting the bus and puddle-jumper will be easy (I am picturing Romancing the Stone or Indiana Jones for some reason). Other than that, I am about ready to go-- unless I just do 10 days in one place. . .

Oh, and check out this description of why Honduras is safe, from Lonely Planet. It is hilarious, at least to me:

Most of the places you will want to hang out have at least one guard with a machetti. Popular beaches have machine gun patrols at night. A lot of locals have guns so its pretty safe from blatent robbery.

LOL - that's the first thing that popped into my mind when you said bus. BTW I heard Prague is a great city to visit.

I've done this in Costa Rica. It was really a blast. I do think that the level of difficulty of the rapids (class number) depends on the season and when they release water from a dam. Even though, I highly recommend that you check out whitewater rafting.

A quick search brought me to this thread...I am leaving tomorrow morning for Honduras and will be there for a week. Any info you have, kinch or anyone else, would be great...

Well! That will take the fun outta it! :( But, you just might need some off time after the orphanage visit. Don't feel guilty and not have some personal time. You deserve it. It's beautiful there. You may never go there again. Just sayin'.......

Me and the better half are taking a vacation this winter and trying to decide between the Bahamas and Costa Rica. I'm leaning towards Costa Rica. A friend was there for a wedding a couple summers ago and had a blast.
