Costa Rica and Honduras

Any advice on travelling to these countries would be much appreciated.

We will be going in May. We originally were going to visit a friend in Tokyo, then Prague, then screw it: we want some damn sun.

While all advice is appreciated, our general plan, as of this morning, is to fly in to San Jose, stay a half day, then go near some volcano or something. 5 days of horses, volcanoes, zip-lines and, if available, climbing for me. Then hopefully we'll fly to Honduras for 5 days or so of scuba diving. I guess that means inland Costa Rica and beach Honduras. . .

Tips?

Thanks a lot. We should do this more, btw. Vacations are one time when it is absolutely huge to have some first-hand tips. . .
 
As with most third world countries, leave your jewelry at home. Just a simple rule to protect yourself from self advancing cops who will "let you off" if you fork over your rings.

Don't know much about either country other than I've heard about the scuba diving being excellent.

My neighbor went last year and had an excellent time. Went to a national park in Costa Rica.

I always advise people who travel to third word countries to check about what shots they may need. And to never put suitcases on beds, at a hotel and when you come home. See bed bug thread!

Here's the CDC link for travel in Central America - health advisory. You may want to get hepatitis vaccines if you haven't got them, and malaria pills are easy to take - Usually once a week for a few weeks, but you have to start before you leave.

Although not Central America, my wife is leaving for Brazil tomorrow and she had to get the Hepatitis and typhoid shots.

Nah, she's going as a chaperone with a bunch of OSU Scholars students on a trip. They'll be on the coast the entire trip.

Wouldn't surprise me if she wants to save the rainforest while she's down there though.:biggrin:

We're basically the real-life version of Dharma and Greg.

I was drunk for the whole three days, but the one thing I remember about Costa Rica is that there were a shitload of bugs that come out as soon as it gets dark. I mean a shitload. Do not leave your balcony door, or window open after dark.
