ESPN is reporting that Yankee Cory Lidle has been confirmed as among those dying in a crash in NYC.

edit - He came over in the Abreu trade in the summer, and earned his pilot's licence in the past offseason.

RIP.

From Fox Sports

WASHINGTON (AP) - A small plane with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle aboard crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan's Upper East Side, killing at least four people and raining flaming debris on sidewalks, authorities said.

There was no immediate confirmation Lidle was among the dead, but according to reports on both ESPN and Fox News, Lidle was killed in the accident.

A law enforcement official in Washington, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Lidle was on the plane. And Federal Aviation Administration records showed the single-engine plane was registered to the athlete.
