Cory Lidle (Official Thread)

So because some mediocre journeyman pitcher got killed, it's now a bigger story? Who cares?

This just in - piloting and flying in small planes is dangerous.

I'll feel sorry for the people in the building over anybody in the plane.

it's a big story to begin with... the only difference is that is is being reported on more media outlets than it normally would... do you think ESPN would report on it if it was just a plane... no it will now be run on ESPN, CNNSI etc because of Lidle. Not only will this story run in news segments but it will run in Sports as well. A plane flying into a building in NYC is big news no matter if an MLB pitcher was in it or not. Him being a Yankee has nothing to do with it.

that's actually my point. If you look at all the headlines now they are saying "Lidle dead" or "Yankee Pitcher Dead"

Sorry, while this was initially a possible story about terrorism or a tragic plane crash has turned into a soap opera about some shitty pitcher who died.

CNN.com: Fiery crash kills Yankees pitcher

Foxnews.com: Yankees Player Killed When Plane Hits NYC High Rise

Hell on msnbc. com you can see a gallery : "Remembering Lidle's career"

Yeah, a career of mediocre pitching

So, his being a "shitty" pitcher lessens the tragedy of his death... :roll1:

No, it's still a tragedy. I'm sure some guy in Canton, OH died in tragic circumstances today. Why don't we run a story on him too?

I can undestand the media caring if Randy Johnson or Curt Schilling died. These are famous people.. But who the hell cares about Corey Lidle? He's just a guy who died in a plane crash today. The only thing "interesting" in this story was that there was concern it was a terrorist attack and it ran into a building. Corey LIdle's invovlement is meaningless.

Well for one thing most buildings in Canton are too low :wink2:

The way I read this is much simpler.

A - Plane, NYC, Flying into Building

sounds like two numbers, 9 and 11.

Instant coverage on that score alone.

B - Relatively famous occupant / pilot Cory Lidle

Result - new round of updates, continued coverage - you can expect all manner of meaningless speculation concerning cause, effect, and given that this is NYC about which we speak and the Yankees, reason (suicide by plane crash for troubled pitcher Lidle shouts the Post).

C - Unknown occupant / passenger

Means that even without round 2 we are going to have round 3 when the press discovers who it was that was in the plane with Lidle.
