The dude responsible for mandating all kinds of Draconian measures early on supposedly to keep the virus from spreading, and lecturing 11.7M people about wearing masks, social-distancing, et al, ends up getting it himself.
And yet despite all that, he still caught it.

Seems to me it would have been more irony than karma had Dewine actually contracted the virus. "Karma" was Brazil's Bolsonaro getting the virus after being perhaps the world's most prominent skeptic and not taking precautionary measures himself.

I know thousands and thousands of people. Working in a big box retail store I come into contact with hundreds more every week as does my daughter who works in retail as well. Of all the people I know, and all of the customers that my daughter and I have been in contact with, I know of three confirmed cases. A customer of mine from a few months ago, my son, and me.

For the first time in 36 years there will be no flu season in South Africa
Every year, for the past 36 years, the flu season started around mid-July.

This year, most likely due to Covid-19 prevention measures, no influenza has been detected by three sentinel surveillance programmes, which are designed to monitor influenza outbreaks annually.

(snip)

"Over the past 36 years, the influenza season has started in week 28 (week ending 12 July). This year, the various hygiene and physical distancing measures being implemented to reduce SARS-Cov-2 virus transmission has likely played a role in interrupting influenza virus interruption," Cohen wrote.

"Global influenza activity has been at lower levels than expected and, to date, none of the southern hemisphere countries have reported any influenza activity."

According to the World Health Organisation, some flu activity has been seen in northern hemisphere countries, but southern hemisphere countries are not experiencing a flu season anything like seen in previous years.

All the Covid efforts could definitely help with flu prevention. That could be an unexpected blessing.
Uh, it's not a "blessing" seeing as if you had the flu you wouldn't face the same risk as you would with COVID. That's like saying a guy with no legs has the unexpected blessing of not worrying about tripping and falling.
