Coronavirus (COVID-19) is too exciting for adults to discuss (CLOSED)

Hawaii has been fortunate enough to have one of the lowest per-capita rates of cases and deaths due to COVID-19 in the country. One of the biggest factors is that we get as much daily sunshine as any place in the US, and people here get outside as much as they are able to. I've been posting for probably a month now about how people here have been out walking, jogging, and biking (and yes, many are surfing), virtually all of them without masks. Now, folks here are also extremely compliant with the in-store masks rules, which I'm sure is a significant factor, too. But the role that the constant sunny weather (along with warm temperatures) here has played in the extremely low numbers of cases and deaths simply cannot be ignored.
Is there any science to back that up other than you seeing people running? I see people running here without masks (nobody runs with a mask on) too....we still have cases. Wouldn't you, without science, assign that more to the fact you're on an island in the middle of nowhere, and thus more isolated than the typical American?

Read the NU study. It’s not about catching it. It’s about your body’s ability to fight it.
So once you catch it, you just need to stroll around outside for a good bit....and that'll help you fight it. Solid position. Why are doctors wasting space inside hospitals. They need to be getting these beds outside so the magic sun can do the healing for them.

(sarcastic answer to buy time so I can go read the article)

oh for fuck's sake. the study says people who have a deficiency are in trouble. "Going the fuck outside" doesn't fix a deficiency. If you have a deficiency to the extent that you're in trouble from this, you need to stay the fuck inside so you don't catch it.

"In other words, don't stay in your home. Go the fuck outside." only makes sense if you're going back in time to tell the people that before they became deficient.

I can't find the article, but it is being reported this morning that The Lancet has released results of hydroxycloroquine studies involving 96,000 people.

The findings are that those (that already had COVID) taking hydroxycloroquine (or a 'cocktail' containing it and an antibiotic), had a 33%-to-45% increased rate of death and an increase in heart arrhythmia of 140%-to-411%.

I'm posting this not because of political concerns, but to let anybody considering taking it (edit - taking it for COVID) that they should probably rethink it.

EDIT - Here's the Lancet article

I won't selectively bring in quoted pieces, I'll wait for the medical folks to review this.

Later EDIT - updated the percentages to ranges

We lost a friend a couple of years ago who was working in Senegal for UNICEF when she contracted malaria. Common drug treatment for malaria in Africa was a mix of cheap, available drugs including Hydroxychoroquine. She had a heart attack and died. She was just 45 and in generally great health. It is not a safe drug for treating anything including malaria and has fallen out of favor for newer, safer malaria drugs. Do not under any circumstances take any type of Hydroxychoroquine!

Well I’m sure all the people with GMDs will find a way to discredit that.

will be interesting reading... but will be found totally false...
plaquenil is rated one of the safest drugs that exist in the entire pharma industry... ironic a doc was interviewed that was interviewed about Plaq was making the case against it and when asked how many deaths he encountered from the 30 years he prescribed it, replied 'none'. The 'study' about the VA situation got blown up a few days after one of the BP members stated 'you can never use the VA as a sample case because vets have every physical problem there is'.. or to that effect... subject matter experts said exact same... The 'study' in Brazil was enlightening in that they gave 200mg, 400mg, 1200mg and 2000mg... the normal dosage is 400mg a day... the ones with 1200mg and 2000mg had issues... duh... if there are issues, I highly suspect it will be whatever hydroxycloroquine is combined with.. not the hydroxy... you don't get surprises from a drug that's been out there for 40-50 years and distributed to hundreds of millions of folks (6 millions scripts in the USA alone just in 2017 and 2011)... then magically a 45% increase in death rate... we can probably rest assured we would have heard about issues involving one of the top 100 most prescribed drugs that exists...

One hospital is issuing hydroxy to every one of their 300 first responders... Dr Seigel and Klobachar both advocate it literally saved their father and husband, respectively...
It's disturbing and irresponsible that this is made political rather than 'journalists' or 'experts' not giving a crap about factual (based on a retrospective analysis of medical records, not a controlled study).. (it is an observational study, rather than a randomized controlled trial, so it shows correlation between the drugs and certain outcomes, rather than a clear cause and effect.).. if it makes their political narrative. There's people that need factual info because this is life and death for some... but we get this reporter who has an agenda...

I've got a family member in the hospital at Ohio State... how do I find out whether I (NJ resident) can visit or when?
I can't answer that, but if he or she has a serious case of COVID, I hope they're able to get on a treatment of remdesivir, since that has shown some promise in treatment so far.

Lifestyle change brother, not a panacea. It also explains why black people are at greater risk as the statistics would validate.

Beta blockers can be life-savers to lower your blood pressure...they can also be fatal if you have asthma. Some drugs are good for some things, but can be counter-indicated for others. It literally happens all the time.
