Yeah, so, thing is, you can't say "without pointing fingers" without pointing fingers... the political will is indeed the key thing. But you're right, the earlier testing is just giving greater data points to react. That's a thing I guess. My larger annoyance with these exercises is the underlying implication that we could have contained this in the US. This is a delusion. If you go look at how Governors reacted, you'll largely see they were waiting for early community spread in their states and then started implementing incremental measures. (and I mean the early reacting states, not Florida Man and Missisippi mudslides, hell really not even tristate)

So, speaking of achilles heel healthcare systems... the UK only has 5,000 ventilators? Is that true?

Edit: I saw another article claiming NHS has 8K ventilators.. that's still a "holy fuck that's not enough" number.
I'm going to assume you're responding to my post and my paranthetical "without pointing fingers" comment. To be fair, sure... I'm pointing the fingers. But, with that said, who else is supposed to scale up testing and provision of critical equipment like ventilators other than the Federal government? Elon Musk? Jack Ma? The WHO? CNN?

So... the political parties decided to have a spitball fight while the various news outlets stood around like a bunch of children screaming and yelling and jeering and cheering under the guise of providing "facts" and "updates". Not helpful, on ANY side, in ANY way. That was my point... that the reality of the situation and the risks were clear and calculable, yet everybody (the politicians, the so-called journalists, the news outlets, etc.) was standing around in some kind of big circle jerk telling their respective audiences what a great job they are doing and how they are the only ones not spinning this thing for their own benefit.

It's shameful.

EDIT: And, yes, that's totally a "holy f*ck that's not enough" number... by at least one, and maybe even two orders of magnitude.
