Buckeyes
Earle Bruce and John Cooper will share a ``coaches emeritus office'' in the renovated Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Tressel said the project was originally budgeted for $4 million, but cost $21 million. The move-in is slated for March 5-6....

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CANTON ? When the Ohio State football coaches move into their new digs at the renovated Woody Hayes Athletic Center next month, members of the current staff won?t be the only ones with offices.
"There?s going to be a ?coaches emeritus? office," Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel said yesterday, "where (former) coaches (Earle) Bruce and (John) Cooper will have desks."
In one of the few speaking engagements he has made in Ohio since the national championship game Jan. 8, Tressel addressed a crowd of about 400 yesterday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club.

COMMENTARY Cooper, Bruce could be Tressel?s new brain trust

ROB OLLER

I?ll say this for Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel. He?s a man of his word.
When he says he?ll do whatever it takes to make the Buckeyes better, he means it. Even if that requires rubbing a couple of old salts ? Earle Bruce and John Cooper ? into the wound.
Thanks to Tress, Earle and Coop will share an office in the renovated Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
It?s obvious, isn?t it? Cover your weaknesses with strengths.
Against Florida in the national championship game, Ohio State played like someone spiked its Gatorade with NyQuil. The Buckeyes displayed all the emotion of a Maytag repairman.
So Tress solves the problem by hiring Bruce, the fiery former Ohio State coach who never met a topic he couldn?t turn into a motivational testimony.

Cont'd...

This would really be a whole lot funnier if it was another team. :(

I hate the Dispatch's sophomoric recruiting coverage! Here's stupid Rob Oller, perpetuating the myth that Tressel can't recruit just because the national services don't rate his small class in the top-5...

"Coop couldn?t beat Michigan, but he could beat the pants off most coaches when it came to evaluating and recruiting high school talent. And after the non-top 10 recruiting class that Ohio State coaches just brought in, the Buckeyes could use a guy like Coop to win over future blue chippers. So you have to hand it to Tress... Problem: recruiting. Solution: Coop."

I love the idea... but the writer for that article is a dimwit.
If either of these guys were "hired" -- wouldn't we hear about it elsewhere?? This just seems like a good way of keeping old relationships, tradition, etc. and maybe occasionally getting a 2nd thought or having that grandfatherly advice from somebody looking "in". Both these gentleman have their own lives and job(s) -- I don't think they're going to be sitting around all day watching game film.
On another note, why would we need anyone to watch over Urban Meyer? That was probably the last time we play Florida in a long long time... this half-cocked "reporter" is just trying to look for a story any way he can.

Why is this being treated as new news? We've dicussed this as far back as September of last year. I thought this was common knowledge months ago.

That's what I thought. Possibly because there is an article about it?

Either way, it's nice to have positive thread fired former Head Coaches. Not too many boards would have one, I'd think.
