Re: Urban, My Hero Oh and you are right---UF is way over rated. I can't stand the fact that I own my own law firm with 26 employees and have averaged about $500K a year for the last 4 years. I am just a dumb a#$. Oh, and I fired the only UM grad I ever hired because he could not argue his way out of a wet paper sack. Give me a break!!!!

Brief side-note...

If I may interject a mini-rant of my own, it's really frustrating (if not embarrassing) seeing fellow Michigan fans throwing whiny tantrums like petulant children. A number of UM boards have indeed reached critical mass in light of the BCS developments, and unfortunate quantities of Wolverine faithful have been spewing vitriol at anyone and anything, including each other. I've caught some flak myself recently for speaking out against a rematch as well as refusing to root for other teams to lose in hopes of us "backing in" to the title game.

Every fan base is inevitably plagued by some quantity of loudmouthed fair-weather fans which reflects quite poorly on the rest, but sheesh -- I don't ever recall seeing flare-ups this drastic. People threatening to boycott watching bowl games, quitting message boards, claiming our 11-1 season to be a total failure, cries of "Fire Lloyd" starting to echo once again... it's pretty sad to witness.

Volumes of similar posts suggest to me that most of these people have only a tenuous grasp on reality, if that. I'm a huge fan, please don't get me wrong, but I strive to maintain objectivity even when faced with disappointment. Just remember not all of us exhibit the sheer levels of retardation presented in this thread. :wink2:

F the BCS, F the Bowls, We Need A Playoff !! The BCS and the Bowls are a gigantic conspiracy to make a lot of money, provide entertainment and nothing more.

Here we have the most popular major college sport (with hoops a close second) and yet it's the only NCAA sport that has absolutely no integrity when it comes to determining the national champion.

People say how great the bowls are, my god isn't the pageantry wonderful, blah, blah, blah...

I say a simple four or eight team playoff would blow the doors off the bowls 100 times over if it were instituted. The TV ratings would easily surpass any of the bowl games simply because they would instantly be better quality games, because they'd be better matchups and more meaningful as they progressed to the championship round over a two or three week period. They would put the NCAA basketball tournament and Final Four to shame.

The hypocrisy of the major colleges makes me sick. University administrators say they can't support a playoff because, after all, these poor student athletes can't be expected to keep playing games after the regular season, but everyone knows it's all about money. Get into a top tier bowl game and here comes $10 million dollars for the old university. Who cares who wins? Just bring home the payola, baby.

THIS THREAD FTW!!!

How long are you going to be upset for ? Input, please ? I'm fuming inside as much as all of you are since I truly believe that we have gotten robbed on this one. We all know that. As Gene Wojciechowski has said it, this is a highway robbery.

Highway Robbery

I think it's okay to be upset about it. In fact, fans of other teams have shown their sympathy.

However, we need to learn to deal with it. No amount of whining and bitching can change what's happened.

So question is: How long are you going to be upset for ?

I was very very upset after the BCS announcement. I'm trying to let it go now as I have to focus back on my work tomorrow morning. We should really start to let it go now.

Don't you think ? Input, please ? Edited by: michigama79 at: 12/4/06 1:32:04 am

Re: How long are you going to be upset for ? Input, please I want to add that I will take my newfound hatred of Gary Danielson to my grave as well. His rediculous chart no doubt changed several coaches minds who probably never watched any games until that last week.

I love how the Vandy game was a push on his chart. Florida almost loses to Vandy and Michigan dominates Vandy. How is that a push? Its a common opponent, talk about it, elaborate on it Danielson! Man, I hate that guy!

It's in the faithful. It's in the faith. This is the thing that gives the Buckeyes an edge, the Ohio State spirit, the unwavering practice of devotion, devotion the way Woody would want it, and the way John Cooper never could understand. It's a thing so deep it has no roots, so wide it's got no shores. It's a thing that can't be contained, can't be kept under a bushel, or left lying quiet in a heart. It's a thing that has to be sung out, made manifest.

We have a thread about our own no-nothing, bandwagon-jumping, mistaken-at-the-top-of-their-lungs, embarrassments in Buckeye Clothing. It is always the last-on-the bandwagon (and first off of it) Johnny-come-latelys that are responsible for the kind of posts that we are lampooning in this thread.

I'm glad to see that you aren't taking it personally. You've been a great addition to the board.

(If anyone knows him please send him here. I cannot find an e-mail for him. If anyone has one let me know.)

I am not sure if you still have a hang over from the beating you took as the OSU QB in the bowl beating Georgia gave you in the day.
On the show tonight you said, and I am paraphrasing, that the coaches cannot vote essentially because they see so few games. You said people like you see 20 games a week and know whats up. You said "I know the SEC is the best conference. I know Florida had a much tougher schedule. I know Florida has a better resume when you do the analysis". "But in my opinion Michigan would win on a nuetral field".

For starters, how bout you and me go to the next figure skating event and decide on who we like based on our opinion. This is a great way to do football. Facts are Michigan played a sub standard schedule and should not have been rewarded for it and correctly were not. Florida had a superior resume by far and deserved to be there. If you want to say so and so would win on a nuetral field, I will take LSU over Mich, Fl and OSU in a bowl game and none of the games would be close. Make up your mind but when left with only analysis the voters actually paid attention and voted accordingly. Besides, if Mich had played OSU again the rest of the country would still say those two teams do not have a good win between them. Now they get a chance to prove what they can do. I do not think the Big Ten is going to like what they find out.

In every other sport you have to beat the man to be the man. Neither of you have beaten anybody. Translation paper tiger.

See you all in the bowls.
PS Even though USC will pound Mich's eyes shut, they are deep down glad they do not have to face LSU in the bowl. It would be like child abuse. Not pretty.

PSS In the common opponent thing, I spoke with two Vandy players and a coach today and they all said Florida "is way better". They said the speed difference and athleticism is miles apart. This is all we have to go on.

Reply No win situation for Wolverine fans....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this situation has led Wolverine fans down a path that just stinks to high heaven. So who do we root for in the championship game? The Buckeyes? Who have a fan base that hate us and were the only fans outside of SEC states that didn't support their conference rivals for the championship game. With a coach that wouldn't cast his ballot supporting another Big10 team? I don't know about anyone else, but if the Buckeyes win another championship I'll hear about it over and over for a while. 2 championships since 2002...dynasty...In Tressel We Trust. UGGGH.

Why should we want to see Florida win? Knocks off our own conference champ and make anything they argued about getting their legitimate. It would say that maybe the SEC is a superior conference and the big 10 along with the wolverines could be overrated. The mouths of the south would be dialed in for quite a while.

There's no good solution. Either the Sweater Vest or the Campaigning Crybaby win. Either your most hated rival and fans that don't let you forget it or a team that makes your own team and conference look bad wins. This entire situation stinks and no matter what happens, one will always wonder. What would Michigan done in the MNC?

I would just like to point out that TSUN will actually be making their 32nd straight bowl appearance this year. Greenman11 apparantly can't count or spell. :tongue2:

32 is the longest active streak. Nebraska's record of 35 was stopped a couple years ago.
