Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

I am so incredibly pleased when I see celebrities like Eric Clapton and Arnold Schwarzenegger not only speak highly of Columbus but also invest there. I hope that people from local trade and investment agencies will leverage this to attract other investors to Columbus and create high quality jobs.

No worries buddy.

I thought the guys played night-and-day better on Friday than they have the last two games. They dominated Dallas from whistle-to-whistle. The creativity with the ball that we showed REALLY made that a fun game to watch. If this team can get their chemistry down, this could be a dangerous team on any given night, home or away. We're probably at least half a season away from being there, but there's definetly been some progress from game 1 to game 3. Interested how we stack up against a good team on a good night this early in the season.

I've also recently come to the realization we likely have four untradeable players on this team (in a good way): Emilio Renteria, Danny O'Rourke, Chad Marshall, and Sabastian Miranda. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As soon as Mendoza left the field, the team looked much more willing to attack. Eddie Gaven played lights out... Was really exciting to watch even though it took them until stoppage time, a man up, to get our first goal in the run of play. They'll work on that though. Can't wait to see what kind of dynamic Cunningham brings to the table this year. I just have this feeling that he's going to see more playing time than he initially thought.

Oh my goodness. Literally as soon as Mendoza left the pitch, we looked so much more dangerous on offense. Would love to see more of that TSUN striker and Cunningham than Mendoza. He's gonna have to earn that DP money we're paying him, and thus far, he's disappointed.

Renteria had the SLICKEST backheel I've seen in a long time to spring Cunningham there in the 2nd half of our last game. Couldn't believe Cunny screwed that up like he did. Can't wait until Renteria is 100% healthy and back to being a 90 minute performer for us.

Was at the game last night and I'm STILL cold down to my bones. What a game though. Robbie Rodgers scored a nifty goal off of a slick glancing header by Dilly Duka, and the defense held the highest scoring team in the league scoreless for a 1-0 win. The boys are impressive.

So since DC United put up three goals on the Crew the first game of the year, they haven't been scored on since. FOUR straight shut-outs (a new club record) and 373 straight minutes without yielding a goal (tying a club record). Tied for 2nd in the East and 5th in MLS currently.

The offense still isn't clicking quite yet. Still needs some tinkering or some new parts to be added. On the other hand, that defense is hitting on all cylinders... and it's not just the fullbacks, center backs, and goalkeeper. The midfielders are playing just as solidly on D (just think if we still had Carroll back there... *sigh*) and the forwards are doing an admirable job applying pressure. Sporting KC put only TWO shots on net... and they were averaging 2.6-somthing goals a game going into the match. The fact that the defense is playing this well with three new starters to the team this year is crazy.

We are far from the meat of our schedule (I'd even go to say we've had the easiest schedule in the league thus far... and thank goodness!), but this is a very promising start.

You're telling me... Good lord it was cold and wet last night. I'm not too upset with the sad crowd turnout, given the horrible weather. Was glad to see them put up the W AND record another clean sheet. Now let's get some damn warm weather so I can actually enjoy the tailgate!

Sagarin has the Crew at #9 with a SOS rank #14.

Once they get their personnel right, I'm confident this team can make some noise. Do I think they are better than DC United, NY Red Bulls, or LA Galaxy? No, but they may be able to surprise a few of the top teams this year. Dily Duka playing where Eddie Gaven normally plays and having Eddie Gaven play up front with Renteria last night was huge. It opened up KC's D a bit and allowed Columbus to move more freely. Lastly, what can I say about Chad Marshall... The dude is absolutely anchoring the defense.

Question: How furious were you when either Renteria, Cunningham, or Ekpo were tripped near midfield and still passed the ball forward to a wide open Eddie Gaven but the ref felt the need to stop the play? Advantage should have been played, but then again that looked like an amateur group of refs out there. They were struggling to make the right offsides calls. A sloppy game to say the least.
