Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

Sources: U.S. goalkeeper Zack Steffen in talks with Manchester City

Re: But multiple sources have confirmed the talks to acquire Steffen are in an advanced stage and could be completed by the end of the week. Sources also confirmed that Columbus will receive an undisclosed percentage of any transfer fee if Steffen is subsequently transferred.

Whoopie shit.....:roll1:

This is why the MLS (aka minor league soccer) in the US sucks. A team developes/gets a good player and "whoof" he's gone.

Lawsuit against Crew, MLS dismissed to clear way for sale of team

Columbus and the state of Ohio have dismissed a lawsuit against Major League Soccer and Columbus Crew SC today, effectively clearing the runway for a deal to sell the team and keep it in Columbus.

Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein said officials with the ownership group, which includes Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam and Crew team doctor Peter H. Edwards Jr., have told him that dismissing the lawsuit is necessary to complete the sale of the team.

“The whole purpose of the litigation was to get to this point,” Klein said. “I made it very clear that I was not going to dismiss the lawsuit until we were at a space where the sale was imminent.”

Klein said dismissing the lawsuit will expedite finishing the deal, which MLS has said needs to be done before the end of the year.

Klein and Attorney General Mike DeWine, now the governor-elect, filed the lawsuit earlier this year to try to stave off plans by Crew owner Anthony Precourt to move the team to Austin.

Congrats to anyone involved in the 'Save The Crew' effort!!! Glad to see the team is staying.

http://www.espn.com/soccer/major-le...nt-in-principle-to-take-over-columbus-crew-sc

Major League Soccer has announced that an investment group comprised of Cleveland Browns owners the Haslam Family and the Edwards Family has reached an "agreement in principle" to acquire an ownership position in MLS, one that will see the group operate the Columbus Crew starting in January of 2019.

In a prepared statement, MLS commissioner Don Garber said he was "extremely pleased" that the deal had reached this stage, and he noted the contributions of the various stakeholders involved in keeping the Crew in Columbus.

Reports: Tim Bezbatchenko to take over as Crew SC president

An Ohio native, the general manager of Toronto FC would be the new leadership for the Black & Gold.

Columbus Crew SC seems to be on the verge of securing new leadership after the departure of Gregg Berhalter and the purchase of new investor-operator rights rights to a new ownership group. According to MLSSoccer.com Sam Stejskal, Tim Bezbatchenko is leaving the role of general manager of Toronto FC and making a move to Central Ohio to become the Black & Gold’s new president. The Columbus Dispatch’s Michael Arace was the first to report the possibility.

According to Stejskal, Bezbatchenko would not only be the main executive of soccer for the Black & Gold overseeing the technical staff, in a similar role to the one he developed in Toronto, but also be the head of the franchise in the business side.

Caleb Porter seems to be the choice to be the next coach for the Crew as Massive Report and other outlets have reported, but no official announcement has been made by he club at this point.

After watching the Crew presentation today with Dee Haslam and Pete Edwards, I don't know why it's in my crawl that I kinda would like the club to get rid of the "SC" and change the logo.

Basically, get rid of everything from the previous owner because it was pretty much a "front" for a scheme.

I got season tickets in the Nordecke. I can't wait for the season to start. It's going to be a fuckin celebration every match, inside the stadium and out. So happy for this team and this city. To say the new local ownership is a breath of fresh air is the understatement of the new year. They're doing everything right

By the way, supporter's meeting Saturday at Endeavor Brewing Company at 2pm for anyone that is interested. USA/Costa Rica watch party following the meeting
