Charlie Coyle signed a six-year, $36 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. It has an average annual value of $6 million.

The 34-year-old center had 58 points (20 goals, 38 assists) in 82 games with the Blue Jackets this season, his first with them after being acquired in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche on June 27, 2025.

"I've seen what we have," Coyle said. "I've seen our potential and I'm excited for it and it's something I want to be here for and work towards and the team we have, the depth we have, it's something that excites me and something that I want to be a part of going forward, and something that we can build because it's there. I know it's there."

Coyle could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

"When you go back to last year when we made the trade for Charlie, we said we were looking for a right-hand shot center and certainly we were happy to make the trade," Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell said. "But then having Charlie all this year, getting to know him as a not only as a player, but as a person, we knew that he cares about the team, cares about winning, and cares about the community so when we met at the end of the season and talked to all the players, Charlie was very clear that if there's that opportunity and we can work it out, he'd like to stay."

Remembering Bill Davidge

The longtime Blue Jackets broadcaster and pillar in the Ohio hockey community passed away Wednesday at age 72

For Bill Davidge, it was always about the people.

He loved the game of hockey, and may have loved golf just as much, but he loved the people the most.

His time as a player and coach was marked by the relationships he built with his teammates and players. His memorable stint as a Blue Jackets broadcaster and ambassador made every trip to the rink or a charity event into a reunion. Every tee time was a chance to catch up with an old friend or meet a new one.

Davidge, a fixture in the CBJ community for the organization’s first two decades who could best be described as simply “Mr. Blue Jacket,” passed away Wednesday at age 72.

That said - his best friend is Zach Werenski.

If the CBJ aren't immediately backing up the brinks truck for Werenski after the past two seasons (he should have won the Norris last year too), I don't think they'll ever do it.

And Larkin is making himself available. Go get him Don.

Zach Werenski Sends Clear Message To The Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski is living the high life right now.

In the last 12 months, he's won a Gold Medal, a Silver Medal at 4-Nations, led that tournament in points, won Gold at the World Championships, won the Norris Trophy, and become a new dad. With all that being said, he's still not content.

Werenski appeared on NHL Network yesterday to talk about what a wild ride his life has been in the last year. But he had one clear message.

"I think the one thing I've learned after the World Championships and after the Olympics was just how fun winning is. I obviously haven't had that much success in the playoffs here in the NHL. I want that to change," Werenski said.

He goes on to say, "I had so much fun on those teams (WC & Olympics), and winning anything is fun. I got reminded of that these last 12 months, and I just want more of that."

This isn't the first time he's said this either. He said it last year after the 4-Nations tournament as well. "I'm ready to make the playoffs and be an impact player in it. I don't want to wait too much longer." It's time to listen to him.

Zach Werenski has sent a clear message to the Columbus Blue Jackets that it's time to win. It's time to build a winner around Zach Werenski before it's too late.

With the news yesterday that Detroit Red Wings star and best friend of Werenski, Dylan Larkin requesting a trade out of the Motor City, that could mean a chance for Don Waddell to do something crazy.

I read that as "Do something to get this franchise into the playoffs or I'm out".

And no one can blame him. I posted something similar back in January.
