Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Just sayin': The Blue Jackets lost a franchise-worst nine in a row (0-7-2) from Dec. 10-26, 2009; and again this season (0-8-1) Oct 24 - Nov 11.

They go for a record 10 in a row Friday at Philadelphia.

They have a long way to go to break the NHL record for the longest winless streak: Winnipeg Jets, 1980-81, 30-game winless streak (0-23-7)
they finished with a 9-57-14 record that season.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...n-says-he-cant-stand-up-like-a-normal-person/

He's done. There is no reason to expect he'll ever play hockey again. Sucks too - a true power forward who has had postseason success like Horton did just don't come along very often.

Re: “I can’t stand up like a normal person; I can’t bend over,”Horton told Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch. “I can’t run. I can’t play with my kids. To get in and out of the car, I’m like a 75-year-old man…so slow and stiff. I can’t sleep at night. I try to lay down and my back seizes up and I can’t move, so sleeping is out. I’m like a zombie in the daytime.”

First off, you have to feel really bad for the man and hope he makes a full recovery; regardless whether he plays any more hockey or not.

Re: he was reportedly diagnosed with degeneration of the entire lumbar region of his spine in October

You have to wonder why that wasn't detected in his pre-contract physical (just last summer) with the Blue Jackets.

Re: Since signing a seven-year deal worth $37.1 million with the Blue Jackets as a free agent before the 2013-14 season, Horton has suited up in only 36 games.

WOW!!!, that's $1.03M per game.

Re: insurance would cover the bulk of the contract if this does indeed end Horton's career. He could be placed on long-term injured reserve to provide cap relief and a roster spot if the Jackets choose to do so.

That's good to know.

They have 6 games left in November - Detroit, Boston, @ Philly, Winnipeg, Vancouver, @Nashville

For this team to truly not be done, they need to get at least 8 points out of that stretch, if not 10. With tonight's win, as bad as it sounds, they are only 5 points out of 3rd in the Metro (yes the Metro is that bad) and it's absolutely not a huge mountain to climb if they can get points in most of their games for the rest of November.
