Steve Mason is single-handedly playing his team out of playoff contention and himself out of a job in the NHL.

A competent goalie would have the CBJ in the playoffs right now.

The word was that they were shopping Mason hard.

I can't imagine why there weren't any takers. I mean, a head case goalie with a GAA hovering around 3 and and .89 save percentage?

Who wouldn't jump all over that?

So now the CBJ need a D man, a center AND a goalkeeper.

Back to the drawing board I guess. Who is the consensus top pick in this years draft?

EDIT Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the top C and Adam Larsson is the top D man. I don't know how NHL ready either of those guys are, but the CBJ need something to happen in this years draft. They need someone that can come in and contribute. This team needs some heart and some balls

I do actually like the moves that Howson pulled off. I think the players he got in those deals are quality players who could really help this team.

That said, Mason played very well in February and March has been a disaster. He's clearly not seeing the puck very well right now and that's been a problem this entire year.

Exciting game in St. Louis so far. Two fights within 5 seconds of each other at the beginning of the game, Mason gave up a quick goal, then the Jackets strike twice within a minute (Voracek and Calvert) to go up 2-1.

Make that 3-1 Jackets after a shot from Tyutin from the blue line on the PP. Couldn't tell if it was deflected or not, but it probably was.
