Colts at Steelers(-3.5)

This isn't a 1 game observation, and I understand Ben has been hurt this season...but does anyone else think he is very overrated?

He's had a top 3 defense behind him every year, with a solid WR core every season. Typically, a very good run game.

Even an average QB is going to put up a very nice W-L record. Look at Flacco in Baltimore. I think Ben walked into an amazing situation, and people look at his Superbowl win and call him a top 5 QB in the NFL today. I just don't see it. He hangs in the pocket too long, takes way too many sacks, and his accuracy has been really inconsistent the last couple of years.

I know what you are saying but I think the big thing is the fact that if you look around the NFL there really aren't that many good QB's around and your fact about what team is playing for certainly does help him. He also has excellent WRs especially Hines and Santonio was a very good TE and OL.

I guess I'm just tired of hearing him always put in the top 5 of NFL QB's....and every ESPN analyst and radio personality does it. I just don't see it. Put Roethlisburger in another franchise and he's just another QB, IMO.

I thought it was funny after Pittsburgh's game last weekend when Byron Leftwich had to come in and close the game out, he told his offensive line "I'm taking a 5 step drop, hitting my backfoot, and getting rid of the football. That's all I need." He said the offensive line was excited...probabaly b/c Ben takes 5 steps, doesn't throw the football, navigates around in the pocket, and either takes a sack or makes some off the wall play when a simple throw probabaly could have accomplished it in the first place.

Here's the thing: Last year, Big Ben made a ton of great plays by moving out of the pocket when nothing was available. This year, Big Ben is moving around and out of the pocket when small gains are available because he wants a bigger play. He is moving around because he wants the big plays. Here's the thing: Those are broken plays. When every receiver is covered, the football field turns into a hectic mess. The opponent's defense wants to keep everyone covered and the Steelers Wide Receivers and Tight Ends are just trying to get into a spot where Big Ben can get them the ball.

All Big Ben needs is a 5 step drop, hit back foot, and release. He just wants more. He wanted Limas Sweed so then he could throw jump balls when he moves out of the pocket. He is taking his greatest strength, his ability to move out of the pocket when a play is broken, and he is turning into his greatest weakness.
