Colorado Buffaloes (official thread)

To the anonymous imbecile with apparently extrordinary ding powers who thinks that I think that being a shitty player makes rape okay.

My position has never been that Hnida being a shitty kicker justifies rape. It's that:

1. I don't believe she was raped.

2. I understand Barnett's frustration with being saddled with a crappy "player" who, due to political correctness, he couldn't cut, and who then levelled what he felt to be false accusations against his players and program 4 years after she claimed the "rape" occurred.

I also find it fascinating that not one CU player has been charged with rape, that two players accused of rape by a drunken woman were conclusively exonerated by DNA evidence (bummer to be big and black in Boulder), that Lisa Simpson's civil case was dismissed before trial, and that Rick Reilly dropped the Hnida story like a hot potato after a single explosive rant that suggested that more would be coming. It's the railroading of Barnett without adequate evidence and the willingness of some fans who ranted about media inaccuracies re: OSU to accept everything bad about CU and Barnett without question that I have issues with.

I disagree with most of your position, but it wasn't me. Heck, greenies for a good civil conversation, as far as we went.

"Heck, greenies for a good civil conversation, as far as we went."

Thanks. I assumed it wasn't you from reading your posts before. Thanks to the others helping my rehabilitation as well. I'm not one to whine about rubies, but the comment that I got with them wasn't appreciated and I wanted to let the dude know.

I could well be wrong re: Barnett or even Hnida's allegations, but I don't think the evidence shows that yet and I think Barnett's been piled on.

You are welcome.

Personally I may disagree with a conclusion that Barnett get a clean bill of health for all he did or said, or failed to do in Colorado. Still, you've got a right to your opinion, you state it clearly and well and that is what we are here to do. And, if I disagree on a point its easier to put my thoughts down here so you can see them. Hiding disagreement behind an anonymous ruby donation is something I honestly don't understand.

As for the pending hire at Colorado, if they do get Hawkins it will be better than they could have hoped for IMHO. First, he's right priced for a fairly cash-strapped Athletic Department. Plus, he'll bring sizzle of a positive tone back, and that's something the Buffs have been lacking for a good long while. Plus, there is the intriguing aspect of how his more wide-open offense will translate to the Big12. Given the type of team Barnett preferred to build I would not expect a miracle turn-around in year one. I guess we shall know the Hawkins era has arrived in earnest when the Buffs home-turf gets colored blue.

Hawkins was my preferred choice for the job from the start. The innovative offense will draw crowds and should be quite effective in the Big 12, and simply by being upbeat he'll be an improvement over Barnett. CU needs facility upgrades, and I think a Bohn-Hawkins team can get the alumni to open their wallets. I think Hawkins MIGHT be their Tressel, while Embree would have been their Mason.

Looks like it is a done deal.....

Boise State coach Dan Hawkins has accepted the head coaching job at the University of Colorado, sources told ESPN. Hawkins will be introduced at a news conference on Friday.

Hawkins had been rumored as a potential replacement since former coach Gary Barnett's dismissal last Thursday.

Reached Wednesday night, Hawkins said, "the process is not complete."
"The only thing I know for sure is that I'm going to be in the theater tonight with my boys watching 'King Kong,' " he said.

Hawkins interviewed with Bohn on Saturday, the first interview that CU athletic director Mike Bohn conducted. Hawkins, former Colorado player and current UCLA assistant Jon Embree, and Denver Mullen High School's Dave Logan were the three candidates that spoke with Colorado officials, according to a person familiar with the search.

"Dan Hawkins is the type of coach who represents virtually every expectation that I outlined," Bohn told Denver station KUSA-TV on Wednesday before the agreement was finalized. "We will be well on our way to restoring a sense of pride in the Golden Buffaloes."

Boise State won a share of its fourth straight Western Athletic Conference title this season and is 53-10 under Hawkins. He's been a hot name on the job market for the past couple years, and Boise has enhanced his contract and the football facilities to keep him.

However, Hawkins could just about double his $525,000 annual salary at Colorado. His contract calls for an $850,000 buyout, but that will be reduced to $700,000 after this season. At this point, it is unclear whether Hawkins will coach Boise State in the MPC Computers Bowl against Boston College.

ESPN has also learned that offensive coordinator Chris Petersen will remain at Boise State and replace Hawkins as head coach. Hawkins, however, is expected to take several of his assistants from Boise State with him to Colordao.

I agree, CU is a sleeping giant. They have recruiting pipelines to California and Texas. They still do a decent job of keeping in state tallent. They now have a young energetic coach that will bring excitement. Oh and this little matter of having a history of heisman trophies and National championships. I am not calling them SC or anything but there is no reason that CU shouldn't be a good team. God I just wish that OU, UT, Aggy, CU, and NU could all be good at one time. That would make the Big 12 beyond respectable and hell maybe even fun to watch again.

Kick when they're up, ridicule them when they are down:

If all else fails, get stinking drunk :tongue2:

Looks like the Buffs losing record under new HC Hawkins has some fans teeering way over the edge .. more ejections and public drunkeness in a couple of games than they would typically see in an entire season.

Ejections, alcohol treatment on rise at Colorado games

Associated Press

BOULDER, Colo. -- Campus police say they have seen more people in the alcohol treatment center at Folsom Field during Colorado's two home football games than they have during entire seasons.

There were 68 ejections during Saturday night's loss to Arizona State, police Lt. Tim McGraw said Monday. That's the highest number at a single game in the past two years; 60 were ejected during the season-opening loss to Montana State.

Student-government leaders and the team's football captains signed a letter last week that asked fans to be respectful during the Arizona State game. It was e-mailed to the student body.

The university is also expected to open a telephone line next month so fans can report rowdy behavior and there are good-behavior reminders aired on Folsom Field's BuffVision during games.

The school's initiatives are part of a Colorado sportsmanship program, "Compete With Class." The Big 12 initiated the program member schools as part of a conference-wide sportsmanship effort.

So far this season, 11 drunken people were taken to the Addiction Recovery Center, where they are held until they get sober. During the five home games in 2005, six people were taken to the center and eight people were taken there during six games in 2004.

The Buffs are a joke. I'm glad I live in Ram Country.

Hawkins will turn that program around. He just doesn't have anything resembling a QB to work with at the moment and his OL is in transition a la OSU 2001. Some of the CU students are a joke, but that's what happens when you're a popular destination for rich California and Texas kids.
