College Football Playoff (2015-16 Season)

You're ranked in the low 30s in pass defense and I still see #4 out there getting toasted.
Last year you played only 3 teams capable of exploiting that -- you lost to 2 of them, and the 3rd was damn close til #4 got benched.
And now you're also doing it w/o Landon Collins.
Eddie Jackson has been doing much better this year.

Advanced statistics say Bama doing much better as well: http://www.footballstudyhall.com/pages/2015-alabama-advanced-statistical-profile

Also, Bama has 27 sacks this year, which is more than they had all of last year, I think.

Last year Bama was good for 3 or 4 blown coverages a game last year, at least. This year that has been cut in half.

Overall pass defense, like you reference, isn't the best metric, because it is too raw and simple. You'll notice in the link I posted above that Bama's pass defense s&p+ is #1. That's pretty good.

Again the entire offense is suspect, even running the ball. Defense is ok.

Agreed. At this point, the committee is essentially tossing on-the-field performance aside and adopting Herbie's "look test" instead.

I'm not even sure you could claim the eye test... they've got glaring issues at QB and pass defense. Fortunately for them, they're built to stop teams like LSU and Wisconsin... this will be Fournette's moment of truth imo. If he carries them to victory, the Heisman is guaranteed and only leaves Miss in the way of a guaranteed playoff berth -- though given the CFP's love for the SEC West despite several seasons of being exposed now, it wouldn't surprise me if LSU got a playoff spot w/o even going to a CCG.

You can massage the numbers however you want but it doesn't change the facts.
2015 Ole Miss, 341yds 10.3ypa 3 TD
2014 Ohio State, 256yds 7.1ypa 2 TD
2014 Auburn, 456yds 10.6ypa 3 TD
2014 Ole Miss, 251yds 8.1ypa 3 TD
2013 Oklahoma, 348yds 7.9ypa 4 TD
2013 Aggy, 464yds 11.9ypa 5 TD

You've had issues defending the pass for several years now. Of course Jackson looks better playing the likes of Georgia and Wisconsin .... they can't throw to save their lives. Face a fringe top25 team with a downfield threat, and it all falls apart though.

And what really hurts from last year is no more Amari Cooper to bail your subpar QBs out.

The Ole Miss game had over 130 yds on a play that should have been a penalty and a play that was deflected twice and bounced off two peoples hands when the qb threw the ball while he was horizontal.

2014 was horrible, and 2013 wasn't much better.

Notre Dame is more comical then Bama IMO (bamas schedule ranking is over inflated though yes).

who have they really beat? USC is average at best....Temple? Needed a last second TD to beat a bad Virginia team. And a loss to boot.

Take Notre Dame off the jersey and you likely have a team ranked in the 12-20 range.

So you've lost NFL starters from those "horrible" years, kept the weakest link... still losing to Ole Miss... but the problem is fixed.
Sounds legit.

I gave you the link to stats that show Bama is doing well this year. I explained the one star you gave. Bama has as many INTs on defense already this year as they did all last season. They have nearly as many sacks as they did all last season. They have nearly as many broken up passes as they did all last year. The entire philosophy has changed, and it has helped.

Rankings are a huge joke, but the silver lining has to be sweet, sweet Briles tears.

Worst part is that it's clear that they are going to do everything in their power to get the fucking domers in.

Or perhaps the committee gradually moves them into the top 4, then drops them out following conference championship weekend to prove a point. That would be delightful.

Has it? The one team with a downfield threat beat you.
I do like your insistence on pretending that loss never happened though...

Your stats are highly derivative... my point is made very clear by the teams you've lost to in the last couple years, and a few of the ones that came very very close.
The weakness is real -- it shows up in the W/L column very clearly. And it's been showing up in the W/L column since 2013.

I have said, in this thread, that the loss wasn't a fluke because Bama is always good for having high turnover games at least twice a year. It's very difficult to win with five turnovers. I don't think you are reading my posts. The loss didn't have much to do with pass yards, but turnovers, which Ole Miss did a good job forcing.

And of course the philosophy has changed. The coaches are different.

You held them to under 100yds rushing... it had everything to do with not being able to defend the pass.

5 turnovers. 130 yds on two crazy plays, one of which should have been a penalty. You make no sense. I don't dispute the pass defense sucked in 13 and 14, that's why new coaches were brought in.
