College Football Fan Map

As I said, Syracuse would have provided the more immediate impact in NYC primarily because the city is a college b-ball town more than fball. That being said, Rutgers is still a work in progress and might prove to be the better choice if they can generate some sustained success in football. In any event, if they're getting the BTN moved to the primary tier in cable, then they've already accomplished their main goal.
ORD, given the long standing feud between Syracuse and Joesus' place, I'm wondering if that might have kept/might keep Syracuse from ever joining the Big Ten. Any insights?

No idea, but I think that ship has sailed with both Rutgers' admission and Syracuse leaving the AAU. I'd guess that the Big Ten is looking more towards UVA and UNC to get to 16.

UT and OU or bust imo. Don't know about OU, but UT would be a homerun for CIC and athletics.
Not getting either UNC or UVA unless goal really is to be a bball conference.
I just don't see this happening. UT and Austin are interesting places, but the UT Athletic Department thinks of itself as a public Notre Dame, "Y' all need to pay us to play with ya and we make the rules." I don't see that attitude changing any time soon.

Think about it, it's LHN and UT's attitude about football economics that drove aTm and Mizzou (to a lesser extent) to the SEC. The CCG was moved to Jerry World to appease UT. Finally, despite aTm wanting to continue their version of The Game, UT refused to keep them on the schedule as an OOC opponent.

I'm surprised Oklahoma hasn't bitched about it, but then they may like the fact that this leaves them in a conference in which their academics aren't going to be called out and all they have to do is beat Texas (I don't expect TCU and Baylor to retain their current level of talent).

The rest of Texas is to racism as Penn State is to pedophilia. Politics are driven by a group of good ol' boys who hand-picked W, Ted Cruz and Rick Perry. Check out "Anatomy of a Filibuster," on Prevail and Ride (http://prevailandride.blogspot.com/2013/06/anatomy-of-filibuster.html). The quad on the eastern entrance to the campus is surrounded by a statuary park of every CSA general from Texas and few well-chosen outsiders - and that's Austin, the liberal bastion of the state. It's just not a fit from cultural, historical, political or economic perspectives.

Likewise, I just don't see UNC joining the Big Ten. The ACC had to scramble when the Big Ten stole Maryland, and the Big Boys in that conference, UNC, NCSU and Duke were none too pleased about it. UNC isn't going to give up an extremely lucrative tobacco road b-ball circuit, all within a hundred miles of their campus, to fly to Minneapolis, East Lansing and Pedodelphia in January and February. Give up a conference tourney in NC for one in Chicago or Indy? Again, I think not. In what matters to them, b-ball, they have too much too lose and too little to gain by joining the Big Ten.

I thought Houston was the liberal bastion?

I know it's a pipe dream, but I can still dream... my grand vision (which will never happen) is
- Add UT/OU, shift Purdon't to East. This will cause LHN conference to implode, which conveniently leaves 4 power conferences and 4 playoff teams.
- 1 game scheduling agreement w/PAC
- 1 game scheduling agreement w/MAC (in the long run, looking for less MAC games)
- B1G divisions do round robin (7 games), plus 1 mandatory cross-division game.
- This leaves 2 free scheduling games, at least 1 more cross-division game is highly encouraged but not required. This gives the freedom for cross-division "rivalry" games, such as Ohio State & Illinois or Michigan & Minnesota, to continue every year if the schools like.
- Only division round robin impacts division champ. In case of 3-team tie, records against MAC opponent, official cross-division game, record against all P4 teams, overall record are used in that order to eliminate down to at least 2 teams (when head-to-head can be applied). MAC is taken first because... seriously, if you lost to them... well... no CCG for you.
- Do promotion & relegation w/the MAC.
- MAC adds 3 school to be at 16 (same as B1G + UT/OU). Scheduling is such that MAC and B1G have same conf schedule dates so teams can migrate w/o any scheduling conflict
- CCG in NYC. Same weekend, worst team from e/division plays best team from respective MAC divisions at MAC stadiums -- winner competes w/ B1G next year. Loser gets laughed at and a reason to actually invest in their pos program (since I expect these would be B1G schools first couple years)
- PAC and B1G champs alternate semifinal game at Rose Bowl and Chicago.
- Once enough shit has hit the fan with the promotion/relegation, and the Purdonts and Illinois have learned their lesson - B1G cuts all ties with MAC.

Tech might be more likely to leave the acc than unc as they have less history with the conference. As for delivering atlanta, tech doesn't have a large fan base and even when the team is doing well the local media focuses on the sec teams. But if they were in the same divison as osu, that would be a game in atlanta every other year, which could help with recruiting kids in ga and other se states.

It isn't about what the media focuses on, it's about what the cable companies would want to put out there.
