Colin Cowherd (Official Ass Hat)

Tress pimped his book - basically it's the guide they have been using to teach their players for ~23 years now. He said he doesn't care much for the SEC > Big 10 discussion, but he is tired of losing two straight NC games to SEC teams. Also gave props to USC, saying their "best" is the best in CFB, and that they aren't worried about what USC will do on the field, but how Ohio State's "best" will affect USC. Cowherd mentioned USC was 2-3 touchdowns better than their average when they are on national television, versus on locally covered games, where they look mediocre.

Talked about his book, telling his players to live in the moment and not worry about what will happen the next week or the week after.

Talking about message boards; says transparency is important, but staff doesn't monitor them. SID staff does to make sure no false information is disseminated. Cowherd says USC-OSU game might have the most NFL talent ever on the field for a CFB game. Tressel is quick to point out OSU-Miami game. Says keys to winning that game are (to no ones surprise) forcing turnovers.

CC opened by asking about the Troy game. He asked if the Buckeyes could get TOO up for the Trojans and end up stubbing their toe against Troy.

[JT: Paraphrased]You can't be too prepared for USC, but you have to manage you emotions because this game is played in the mind.[/JT: Paraphrased]

Cowherd asked JT if he's tired of the OSU/SEC run-around. JT said he's only tired of losing the last two MNC games to SEC teams, otherwise he doesn't really mind. Talked a little about the USC games, mostly about mental prep and all that. Cowherd says he thinks the game will be a defensive struggle because the defenses are stacked at historical levels of talent; JT agrees with the talent comment, then mentions the Miami MNC game (says 86 players from those two rosters spent time in the NFL). They chatted about the message board phenomenon (mentioned the big to-do over in the Big XII that went down recently). Cowherd mentions that OSU has the most message boards of any D1A school; JT says they work hard to ensure that all the information that leaves the program is transparent and correct in order to keep nasty rumors from festering. Generally JT comes off as a class act.

Sorry if that's too brief.

I am in London.

Who is Colin Cowpile?

He has a syndicated radio show. You should be able to listen to ESPNradio or 1460thefan streaming over the internet. He is on from 10am-1pm EDT on ESPNradio. His last hour is pre-empted by local programming on 1460thefan.

As many have stated, he adopts an annoying on-air persona. It works well enough that he has a syndicated radio show...

Like most sports radio guys, he states strong opinions. One difference is that Colin at least attempts to back his opinions up. He tries to say why he believes what he believes. Sometimes he's spot on, sometimes he is a million miles out in left field.

And like everyone else, he was all over Ohio State's jock when they were winning in '06; and has been ruthless ever since.

He praised OSU for scheduling Texas in '05 and '06. He made it sound like they were the bravest of the brave schedulers in all of college football. Then last year he pretended to have forgotten all about that and hammered Ohio State for their soft schedule as if it were an intentional, decades-long practice. Easy to see-through, but not particularly entertaining. Those are the days that I turn him off.

For the most part, it's just the background noise that keeps the hyper-ADHD part of my brain busy so that I can think.

Oh, that guy. Guess that shows what an incredible effect his wisdom has had on me.

At least he got dissed from directly across the pond.

Crummy English summer by the way. Will be glad to get back home this week.
