CNNSI's Mandel on the Buckeyes

Mandel is a fool in his reasoning for ND being higher.

He uses "they have the better offense excuse" ha!

Yet their D gave up 34 in a loss to SC and 41 to Michigan State? What a fucking jack ass. We gave up 25 to THE BEST TEAM IN AMERICA and 17 to the 5th best.

While I don't agree with him... he makes one good point: it's like splitting hairs. I can't help but be biased when I think about ND and OSU... so I really don't know what to think about the situation. ND is allowing 21 points to Navy though... I'm just inclined to believe OSU beats them more often than they beat us.

You know what really grinds my gears though? All the ND love might just cost us a shot at a BCS game. It's not to say we haven't earned our own way out of the game as well. We played our worst game of the year v. Penn State from the staff on down, or this conversation wouldn't even be taking place.

the one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that Notre Dame jumped into the top 25 after beating horrible Pitt team that was ranked at the time and a highly overrated Michigan team. At no point in time did the polsters devalue that Pitt victory. They got a big jump in the polls after both those victories and haven't relinquished many spots since even though both teams have proven to be not as good as their pre season ranking indicated.

1. We start the season in the middle of the top 10 and Notre Dame unranked.

2. We lose late at home to consensus #2 in a thriller. Notre Dame losses late at home to consensus #1 in a thriller.

3. We lose on the road in a close game to the #5 team. Notre Dame loses at home to an unranked team.

This, in his mind, equates to Notre Dame being ahead of Ohio State. And he wonders why he gets the shit he does from Buckeye fans.

Here's what Mandel ignored...

Ohio State loses thriller at home to No. 1(b)Texas because offense curled up ... drops 5 spots.

Notre Dame loses thriller at home to No. 1(a) USC because defense choked .... drops 1 spot.

There's the inconsistency.

I agree that OSU deserves to be ranked above Notre Dame, but Mandel's comments about the offense are just like the controversy we had going on the site throughout the first half of the season. This was a team with NC potential. For whatever reason(s) the offense was not ready to play when the season began and it cost us two games. Given ALL the breaks and field position the defense supplied to the offense in the Texas game the Buckeyes should have put the game out of reach before half time and certainly by the end of the third quarter. I think Tressel himself would tell you that he made a bad decision to pooch the kick off that led to Texas' last score in the first half and to go for a 50 yard field goal. Both decisions went against Tressel ball theory.

What Mandel does not address is the enormous boost ND gets from the coast press. You put ND up there because people in New York like them there.

He also ignores the fact that our offense has improved leaps and bounds.

What has ND done to show that its defense has? .....

Exactly.

stick with cfbnews.com without exception. Maybe stray to cnnsi for some of the big pictures they put up there, and then run away quickly.

they have outstanding analysis, and always seem to be high on the buckeyes.
