CNNSI "Ultimate Playoff"

Don't know if anyone cares, but cnnsi is carrying out an online vote to choose who would win the national title through a tournament. I haven't seen a thread on this as of yet, so if there is one I apologize.

Currently, OSU is "playing" Oklahoma and trailing by about 5000 votes.
Using my complex formula, where 1000 votes = 0 points, the score between 2007 Ohio State and 2007 Oklahoma is still 0-0

ESPN currently has one of these type playoff "theory" matchups as well.

Kirk and Corso picking the winners - Using BCS rankings, the Buckeyes and LSU get a bye into the quarter finals.

Hypothetically; Oklahoma vs Georgia, Virginia Tech vs Missouri.
The play ins - Picked Kansas beating WVU, and USC beating Hawaii.

Which means Ohio State vs Kansas and USC vs LSU.

What is ESPN going to do? Call the USC vs LSU game because of rain then schedule them to play different teams. Thus, in this system of theory they both
win out and get the chance to play each other in the national title..... making the genius minds that compose ESPN absolutely correct on their first picks of
the year in who would be in the NCG.

.... at least thats what I think they'll do :)

I hope the words "Popularity Contest" is featured in giant bold letters somewhere on that site (link)

All of these, "Vote to see who will win" playoff polls are Popularity Contests. I take these "contests" as a grain of salt. They aren't very helpful in the long run. This is why we play the games that are in front of us. There isn't much we can do about the system that is and will be in place. Too many contracts with Conferances, Bowl officials, TV contracts, etc won't allow for a change any time soon.

nope, they will simply use it as proof that even if a playoff were created it would still need a +1 system.

The best show ESPN has ever done was the USC love fest of a couple of years ago. I think ESPN said USC would beat everyone in history including Cornwallis at Yorktown. They never have a bias opinion about USC... You know, like 2 days before Texas beat them...

Actually, if USC had battled the Redcoats, the Revolutionary War would have been well over before Yorktown.

If only these Trojans had been around during the time of Hector and Achilles...
