Cleveland Indians (official 2012 season)

If this is true, the free agency philosophy hasn't changed at all from Shapiro. Aging retreads. :smash:[/LEFT]

Based on what?

Now if you're expecting an everyday outfielder, then it's a bad move, but he's shown to be a quality platoon guy over the past two years and can still play defense. Cleveland only put up a .708 OPS vs LHP and Andruw would greatly improve on that area.

Um, based on the fact that Andruw Jones is another aging retread?

40 man cut before the Rule 5 was yesterday. They DFA'd Valbuena. Barnes, Diaz and Salazar were added to the 40 man so they cannont be selected in the rule 5. I totally understand Barnes, but don't really understand DFAing Valbuena and then adding Diaz. Salazar hasn't pitched over low A and is coming off injury. Interesting moves.

Valbuena is useful on a AAA roster, he's useless on a ML roster. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back before long.

Also, rumors are the Tribe and Glass Joe are close to a one year deal. Probably best for both parties. Gives the Tribe a motivated Glass Joe at a cheaper pricetag and gives Glass Joe a chance to showcase himself for FA next year. I don't dislike the idea. Hell, if we get 80 decent games out of him, it might be worth it.

*edit* ah, posted on previous page.

im cool with this

Indians re-signed OF Grady Sizemore to a one-year, $5 million contract.

As expected. Sizemore could earn an addition $4 million with incentives, which kicks in once he reaches 450 plate appearances. According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the oft-injured 29-year-old could make a $500,000 bonus if he wins the Comeback Player of the Year Award. It's unlikely the Indians would be able to afford to keep him if he has a huge bounceback season in 2012, but they could dangle him in trade talks if they fall out contention.

Terry Pluto was on TV yesterday and thought that the way the Indians might be able to get a right-handed bat for left field/first place might be through trading Chris, Raffy or Tony Sipp. He thinks we enough young pitching to fill the void that would be left in the bullpen if one of these guys were traded even Rage.

here is a nice read from the IPI on the possibilty of trading Rage

I like the angles that Tony from IPI takes most of the time and I do agree we should listen to offers for Perez. We have a ton of relief pitching and could replace Perez easier with the current crop of talent that at the higher end of the minors or on the roster. Between Pestano, Putnam, Judy and possibly Sipp Perez could be replaced, IMO.

We'll see what Antonetti is up to.

I think it's dangerous to put too much weight on the Chris Perez numbers tossed around on IPI. I don't have the info/math skills to calc it, but from attending about 38 games and watching about 90% of the rest last season I would wager that IF you factor out the non-save situations Perez's numbers are totally different. He was like two different pitchers and seemed to get better when the pressure gets higher. In other words, a pure closer.

How many contenders would trade their closer and go into the season with that postion either totally open or staffed by somebody who's never done it at the ML level? If the Tribe trades Perez and gets into that postion that must mean that, inspite of the marketing talk, the Indians' front office does not believe this team will contend in 2012.
