A point to how awful this organization is....

How the fuck does Mark Shapiro get a promotion?

the guy was a terrible GM for a decade......look at his track record in the draft and in free agency

what good did he do? he flipped Bartolo for Sizemore and Lee? ok.....what has Sizemore done outside of a few years....then he went and flipped Lee for career bench players and minor league injury cases.....Sabtahia flipped for LaBusta and Brantley is looking lovely at the moment as well.....2 cy young pitchers and he got basically zero production in return....LETS GIVE THIS MAN A PROMOTION!

He kept the Dolans from spending money, that's the only criteria they use. And shit, why would they ever want to drop 15-20 mil a year on a player, it's not like Ohio teams can do that (oh wait, the Reds just did). And shit, why would they want to spend 15-20 million per player, when they can get 4 stellar contracts like Wood and Sizemore for that kind of money?

he's actually done pretty well in getting other acts at progressive field and coming up with viable promotions to get more than 75 people to show up. that's pretty much all he does now, and that's a good thing. otherwise, kipnis would still be in the minors and luis valbuena would be starting.

it just gets annoying that the dolans and shapiro's excuses for why we have to find other ways to compete is because we are a "small martket" team...then detroit comes in this year and offers fielder the amount of money we offer for our entire team...if you can name a major league baseball city that is in worse shape economically then detroit (besides cleveland), im listening....its about the owners in baseball and ours fucking suck...shapiro and antonetti would probably be decent GM's if they had an owner who would provide them with enough money to afford anyone above a jose lopez...shapiro's trades of Lee, Sabbathia and Martinez were fucking horrible...they set the organization back a few years there...colon and blake trades were good...and Antonetti's with Ubaldo will be determined soon as well...but they have to get creative and cute with everything because we have no money to spend on FA's that are worth a shit...we always build from the ground up, sign our player to a 3 year extension, and then either trade them, or let them walk to the yankees or red sox...i hope a dan gilbert like owner would love to come in to town and buy the team from the dolans...someone who is so fucking rich he doesnt care if he loses 60 million a year...as long as the team is competitive and the fans are happy...but ya this wont happen.../dream over

Pittsburgh/Houston/Chicago are probably up there (pretty sad that all 3 of those are in the NL Central).

I don't know about Pittsburgh's money situation, but Houston has pretty much nothing on the foreseeable horizon and some fat contracts it's sitting on (Lee). Chicago is in pretty much the same situation with Soriano.

Just heard on MLB Network: Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Indians have a deal in place to bring Johnny Damon to Cleveland.
If it's on the cheap, it can't hurt. These kind of moves aren't bad for a team as offensively challenged as these hacks. I'd have an issue with it if he was blocking younger guys, but it's not like we have anybody on the horizon...

i can't fathom how trading cc, lee, and victor set this team back years. if you're talking about strict return, perhaps. but you can't argue that the guys they got back weren't highly touted prospects. they just never quite panned out. however, the victor trade to boston should yield zero complaints.

Yeah, I mean, we got our #1 starter in that one...and Boston got Victor for 1.5 years and lost him in FA. If anything, we won that trade...

As for the other two, the trade market just wasn't there. I think they did the best they could. Sure the guys haven't panned out, and maybe some of that can be blamed on poor development, but I don't recall any better offers at the time. It sucks that those two trades netted very little, but I can't blame the FO for that. Hell, LaBusta was a top-10 prospect in all of baseball, IIRC. Getting Santana for Blake takes some of the sting away from the C.C. trade...for me, at least. Sure, they could have held on to Lee for another year, but it's not like they had the horses to make a run with him on the roster, anyway. Trading vets at the deadline is a buyers market now. Teams typically just aren't willing to part with their top prospects for rentals anymore.

just something to keep in mind folks, Acta is just keeping the seat warm (IMO) for Mike Sarbaugh (55) who has won 6 Championships coaching in the Indians minor league farm system he was also in Major League II

Zack McCallister in 12 IP has a 2.25 ERA with 12 Ks to 5 walks
Nick Weglarz has 8 Ks in 14 AB
TJ House pitched a 2 hit Shutout in his first start of the year in 7 innings with 9 Ks and 1 walk
Jesus Aguliar is so far showing last 2 years have not been a fluke and still crushing the ball
Former scrappers Jordan Smith, Tony Wolters and Fransisco Lindor are struggling to start the year in LC, Wolters is batting .095.

Dillon Howard i think will start at MV but will move up through the system fast, you just dont see many 19 year olds with 3 well developed pitches like he has.
