Cleveland Indians (2013 Season)

Not really the issue with this team. More of the pitching that sucks!
It's both.

The offense is pure Jeckyll and Hyde, which was expected given the makeup of this lineup. The starting pitching has actually been a pleasant surprise for the most part. I know I expected it to be much worse. The bullpen, on the other hand, has become a disaster of 2008-10 proportions. The backend has been a dumpster fire lately. Hopefully Pestano is just shaking off some rust from inactivity. But he looked weak in his last outing. Velocity was way down. Perez has been teetering on the edge for a couple of years now, and he may have fallen off that Borowski cliff. I have a feeling the late innings will be the undoing of this team, unfortunately.

It has been an amazing 15 years since the Indians have drafted an All-Star. Since Sabathia was last an Indians All-Star in 2007, Cleveland's All-Stars have included Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore (acquired from Montreal in the Bartolo Colon trade), Victor Martinez (a farm system product from Venezuela), Fausto Carmona/Roberto Hernandez (signed out of the Dominican Republic) and, the past two years, Chris Perez and Asdrubal Cabrera, acquired from the Cardinals and Mariners.

Well we get 5 games and then the worst 9 game road trip ever...this team will be buried by mid-June...just in time to be sellers at the deadline.
I have no idea what players other teams would want to buy from the Indians except maybe for Bourn and Brantley. Maybe Masterson but I do not know what his contract looks like and he is pretty shaky.

Maybe someone would be interested in Santana as a bullpen catcher:wink: I know he is a good hitter but he has to be close to being the worst defensive catcher in baseball.

every name u mentioned will not be traded from this team...brett myers (if he ever gets healthy), maybe Giambi and possibly Mark Reynolds...if we are sellers towards the end of the season, Reynolds is the most expensive selling piece we have

If they do end up sellers, I'd expect AsCab to be the #1 trading chip. Nobody will want what's left of Giambi. Reynolds would draw some attention.

I honestly don't expect them to tank as bad as last year, so I don't expect a firesale...unless the chicken coup ends up even worse than I expect. I think they'll hover around, or slightly above, .500 and if anything make a move to beef up the bullpen.

Thing is the schedule is backloaded with easier games...by August 1 we have one of the easier schedules in baseball. Until then, it is brutal. So everything being equal, I agree this is a .500 team, give or take. But regarding the trade deadline, we could lose most of the 81 before it, which could lead to a firesale.

I don't understand why the Tribe can't at least half fill the ballpark. It's not like they are horrible, and they did make some moves in the off season to bolster the offense a bit, as well as add some much needed speed (Giambi and Reynolds). I'm a die hard Tribe fan, but unfortunately I live in Arizona and don't get back to Ohio much to catch any games. I do however, go up to Goodyear and catch a few spring training games since they moved back from Florida a couple years back. Had the MLB extra innings package for a couple seasons, but I travel too much to make it worth the price for the full season. A little off topic here, but glad to see them stop the skid tonight and hopefully get back on track. I think if the bullpen gets things straightened out, they will be in contention for a playoff spot. Cabrera and Kipnis haven't really produced yet, so there's plenty of room for improvement. Can't expect the starters to hold the opponents to 1 or 2 runs every game to have a chance, so the offense needs to find some consistency. Just kidding about adding speed to the lineup with Giambi and Reynolds, the point was Bourn and Stubbs, but wanted to see if anyone actually reads posts in this thread.
GO TRIBE!

So Indians/Reds outscored U.S./Belgium 7 to 6, but soccer match out draws baseball game 27,000 to 18,000

People who bitch about the attendance and do not go to more then 5 games are hillarious

Not sure if this is directed at me, but I go to a handful of games a year. Used to have season tickets though

its directed at everyone that falls in that category...i know quite a few personally....and just a reminder to everyone outside of columbus and beyond...the rest of ohio is in a deep deep financial crisis and most people that would go to a tribe game cannot afford to...its sad to say this is true but it is...every town or city an hour's drive from cleveland is broke and everyone in that city is pretty much broke...its not the 90's where they could sell out the stadium every game...it will never be like that again...i would love to see how the attendance would be if you switched our team with say the Angels or the Dodgers, teams with star power, if the attendance would be any different...im willing to bet it wouldnt be much different
