Cleveland Indians (2013 Season)

Chisenhall needs to take to the pine at this point.....Aviles at least can get on base, give him a go at 3B every day

reynolds is just as serviceable defensively at 3rd, and he's smoking the ball. plus that allows a nice rotation at DH with Swisher and Santana at times since Gomes is hitting well. even rayburn could DH some.

chisenhall just isn't providing any value right now, and it wasn't just the fielding error either. he made a really bad baserunning error by not looking at the ball and staying at 2nd in the 8th. they should have hand 2nd and 3rd and nobody out instead of 1st and 2nd, which doesn't allow a double play ball to kill the inning.

I have to agree with everyone here...Chis is still young, but if this team wasn't raking, we'd see a lot more press about how disappointing he's been. Right now he's Hanahan without the great defense. I still think he has upside as a hitter, and thankfully we haven't needed his bat yet...but if the offense goes South again for a stretch, it will start to be more glaring that we need a bat at third.

Well, its gonna be pretty much all hands on deck the next few days, so... gonna see Chis a bit more methinks. At any rate, I'd say today we're gonna get a slight downgrade over the probable starters we would have faced had these games not gotten postponed... Since I had to look both of them up.

Yankees starter for the second game is Vidal Nuno, who the tribe drafted and then cut in the span of 18 months. I love having Bauer, Carrasco, Salazar and soto in Columbus, but can't figure out who nuno pissed off in this organization.

Or not.

Chis was optioned today and David Huff brought up.

So much for that

Apparently management was more keenly aware of his struggles than the fans...or something.

It's best for his future. He is really struggling both with the bat, and glove. Most concerning to me is his seeming inability, or unwillingness to take a walk. He's been up for parts of three seasons now, and there's been no improvement in that area at all. 19 walks in 473 plate appearances (3 in 99 this year) is incomprehensibly bad. He has to improve there if he's going to make it.

As for the game, Tribe strikes first with a Kipnis solo shot. 1-0 Tribe going into the 3rd...

He definitely needs to improve the walk rate but I'm more worried about Ks. Coming up thru Akron and Columbus, he looked like a guy that would put a ton of balls in play with low BBs (1/12.3 PA) and Ks (1/6.4 PA). A BB:K ratio under 2 had me bullish, as did his improvement from 2011-12.

All of a sudden piling up 22 Ks in 100 plate appearances is just an anomaly, I hope. Given that he has 1000+ at-bats in the upper minors, I'm still a bit bullish.
