Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

OK, Sizemore isn't exactly the "name" player for Cleveland he was a few years ago (Choo is probably that now, quite honestly) and he's been hurt, so I could actually see that one, but trading Fausto is just stupid unless they think he is going to tank again. The only way this team doesn't finish worse than the Cleveland Spiders is with pitching keeping them in the game...trading the best starter we have would pretty much end that.
I would tell the Nationals if you want Carmona you take Sizemore. You take both or none. I cannot believe the Spiders were as bad as this team is going to be.

Come deadline time, I wouldn't object to trading Fausto. He's not somebody that you build a rotation around and this team isn't going anywhere for 2-3 years. On decent teams, he's a #3. If they can get a couple prospects for him, I say go for it.

They're gonna be awful this year, but they're going about this rebuild the right way, and the only way they can. The farm system is deep. The drafting philosophy is where it should have been all along. There are several kids that will be in Columbus and Akron that could see the big league roster later this summer. Hopefully they can find a way to lock Choo up and build around him and Santana. I'm interested to see how Alex White progresses this year because he has FOR stuff.

It will be another comical season, but it will be more fun to watch as they build toward the future. We have a manager that isn't afraid to play the younger guys and even better...no Jhonny Peralta! :groove:

so basically this article is saying that Shapiro has done a terrible job of drafting and trading for prospects lately...one prospect out of 50? way to go mark
Actually, the Tribe has one of the top farm systems in baseball by all accounts. Just because they don't have anybody else on that list doesn't mean there aren't good players in the system.

a few points:

1. this mlb.com's list. it's different than baseball america or baseball prospecticus, both of which are better thought of than mlb.com.

2. cleveland would have more guys on that list if they didn't need them up with the big club a little too soon.

yes that is true and i have heard that before...but after hearing interviews with dolan and antonetti about how last year was a rebuilding year, this year will be a closer step to contending and NEXT YEAR we will be contending...so if we are supposedly contending next year then i would like to see more then just one prospect out of 50 on that list to have faith in what the GM and owner are saying...i think we are probably more like 2-3 years out from contending

They also have just about the youngest team in the majors with at least one guy who just missed the cut in Santana.

Not saying this team is gonna be great once they get experience (see Huff, Crowe), but they certainly need some major league time under their belt (Masterson & Carrasco have improved).

Keith Law is usually pretty good and he has Cleveland's farm system at #17 in the league.

http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/news/story?page=2011MLBOrgRanks

It includes anyone that is still eligible for rookie status and gives more weight to high impact prospects but also factors in depth.

oh boy........

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/02/indians-working-to-sign-bonderman.html

The Indians are working to sign free agent pitcher Jeremy Bonderman, a source tells Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. Cleveland GM Chris Antonetti declined comment when reached.

Bonderman lost a potential suitor earlier today when Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said that the club will not look to bring the right-hander back to Detroit. Last season marked the 28-year-old's first since undergoing shoulder surgery in 2008. In 29 starts and one relief appearance, Bonderman posted a 5.53 ERA with 5.9 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9.

Well the Spiders tapped out at 20-134...which is basically Cleveland Cavaliers bad, but not sure it will be Indians bad, though they will suck this year for sure. I agree that if we trade Carmona we need to dump Sizemore with him.

The worst starter in Detroit the last 6 years or so...come on down!!!!

this is what cleveland has to do. they take a guy coming off of injury, sign him on the cheap, then see if he can string something together. if he does, they trade him at the deadline to a contender in need of pitching. carl pavano the sequel.
