Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Tomlin on the bump tonight. Minny has hammered him this season...10 runs and 17 hits over 12 innings. Duensing and his 4.56 ERA for the Twinks....he's a lefty and has won three straight against the Tribe. Not liking our chances in this one. :ohwell:

The two main differences between the start of the season and now are this: timely hitting (clutch/2 outs) and bullpen pitching. We were awesome to start the season and now we're hit or miss, literally.

Edit: I guess you could add the ungodly errors that have been amassing too.

this delay probably fucks the Tribe....Huff was looking on and the Tigers are getting rolled, but its been way too long and Huff will probably be sat and the chicken coup will have to toss 7 damn innings

looks like this one probably wont be played today...they took the tarp off then a few minutes later put it back on

read on twitter though that both teams are trying to avoid another DH/makeup though, so they may wait it out

Detroit lost btw.......despite the fucking Os trying their hardest to blow it......they loaded the bases with no outs in the 9th and an 8-1 lead became 8-5 before they finally ended it

I've been pretty critical of Acta's handling of the pitching staff...this volcalizes it better than I can without a bunch of expletives. From DLF...

First, I?d like to congratulate Josh Tomlin on his 12th win of the year. He certainly earned it, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing just one run on four hits with one walk. The thing that doesn?t make sense to me is the fact that Manny Acta pulled Josh Tomlin after just 84 pitches.
This happens often. Tomlin is cruising along, he gets into a little bit of a jam and Acta yanks him. I don?t get it. Today, a runner did not reach second base on Tomlin until the seventh, yet Acta went to Joe Smith when the tying run came to the plate after Tomlin?s 84th pitch. In Tomlin?s previous start against the Rangers the same thing happened only after 95 pitches, and the bullpen ended up pissing that game right away for Tomlin. If you look back, it has happened at least half a dozen times.
No other pitcher is on such a low pitch count, yet Tomlin is out there walking on egg shells every night because obviously if he gets into even a little bit of trouble, Manny Acta doesn?t think he can get out of it. It doesn?t make sense to me. Tomlin is one of the most composed pitchers on the staff, but get gets pulled after less than 90 pitches often. Instead, the manager leaves hot heads like Carmona and Carrasco out there for 100+ pitches until they blow the game. Josh Tomlin has earned the right to try and win these games on his own. Having such a quick hook can?t be good for his psyche, but luckily he?s a true pro about it.
So, if anyone has any idea why this happens, I?d love to hear some feedback.

I'd love to know Acta's thought process in situations like these...

I would usually agree with you when it comes to Manny and his handling of the pitching staff but this time I have to disagree just a little bit. I think the only two guys on the roster who can go a full nine innings are Masterson, Jimenez, and Carmona (only if his head is not correctly). I do not think that Tomlin's arm strength is up to the capacity where he can go a full seven innings and still have something left. I will grant you that Tomlin is probably the most composed pitcher on the staff but maybe he puts so much into his pitching that he just wears out around the seventh inning. The article refers to the game in Texas and if it is the one that I am thinking about Tomlin walked the first two batters in the seventh inning and you could see that he was obviously started to struggle. Per usual, he had only walked a couple batters the entire first 6 innings. Of course, the bullpen did blow that game. Again, for some reason, I just don't think Tomlin's arm strength is up to going more than 7 innings if that. I don't know maybe it's size.

There have been times this season where I have seen Manny pull starters when I thought they still had something left in the tank but in Tomlin's case when he loses it. It goes awfully fast like some of the other guys that I mention above.

This is one of the few times you will ever see me defending Acta .
