Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Today would be a great day for Jimenez to pitch like he is capable. Both pens are going to be toast for the rest of this series.

Question, if you look at the radar and you know a storm is coming it seems like it would be smart to use the pen to start the game and then bring your starter out in the 2nd or 3rd after the delay. Looking at the radar in Cleveland last night you knew there was going to be a delay and I'm sure someone that knows weather had a pretty good idea exactly when it was going to hit.

Tom Hamilton is the PBP guy...forget who does the color

Mike Hegan... he of the greatest baseball quote of all time.

On the toughest thing in baseball...

"Explaining to your wife why she needs a penicillin shot for your kidney infection."

Jim Rosenhaus is the third guy.

Also, on Hamilton, do yourself a favor and search for "tom Hamilton has the best home run call in baseball" on facebook.

Well, we should have at least Sipp and Perez available. Somehow, and I remember the pop up bunt DP as part of it, but Sipp got 5 outs on 11 pitches. Perez did his inning in 13.

Also, Durbin went 3 scoreless. Did he also face the minimum? I know there was a hit and a double play... his last inning is eluding me, the bourbon was kicking in by that point. Bizarre. (Oops, sorry, Wierd)

Of course you have 2 Bullpens going 23 innings scoreless before the run was allowed in the bottom of the 14th... strange things are gonna happen.

I dont think there was a hit by either team after the delay from innings 3-7

With starters going 2. Both bullpens were fantastic or the bats were as cold as Feb. Strike zone was a fucking joke, and im stil tired from watching that abortion. I would have rather the tribe won 50-0

+1 on the strike zone... thought it was a hit, but, maybe not, I do know there was a strike out/throw out Double Play while Durbin was pitching, thus I got to him facing hte minimum.

I have wondered at times why managers don't have guys from the bullpen start the game and when they start to go south bring someone else in from the bullpen. I just don't understand why a guy from the bullpen can only pitch one inning per night. I mean these guys are professional athletes and get the best training and conditioning available.

Also, I can remember watching a game in the 50s (now my mind is a little fuzzy here) but the manager started a right-handed pitcher and so the other team loaded up their lineup with left-handed batters. As soon as the first inning began, the manager who started the right-hander had a left-hander start warming up in the bullpen and brought him in at the beginning of the second. I often wonder why managers don't do that today. Probably because of some honor code between managers or something.

because starters and bullpen guys train their arms differently to prepare for their roles and have different throwing regimens throughout the week and the season. and, that's generally why you have a guy designated as a long reliever. it's the same reason why a starter can't effectively pitch more often than every 4 days and a reliever can throw 3 days in a row.

if you're the cardinals, you tell the other team that the game will start on time, then have your starter rest while the bullpen guy secretly prepares for the start. whoops! rain delay. my bad.
