Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

it's rumored to be abner abreau and carlton smith.

smith is a borderline bust. abreau has pop, but is a low average/high K guy that doesn't draw a lot of walks. he had a really hot month of july, which inflated his value. if he makes the bigs in less than 4 years it would be a surprise.

abner abreau was a guy who i actually liked in our organization but will not be dissapointed if he is traded

Correct me if i'm wrong, but weren't the Indians supposedly looking for a right handed POWER HITTING outfielder?

Kosuke Fukudome: .273 BA, 3 HR, AND 13 RBI

I realize anything will help the Indians offense about now, but this trade doesn't exactly excite me. If they gave up anyone worthwhile in this trade I will puke.

regardless of what side he hits on or his power numbers, the main thing to look at is his .273 BA...he is an upgrade over buck and kearns...we are not a power hitting team and we are going to have to play small ball unless we deal for a power hitter...as long as he gets on base i will be happy...and his defense in the outfield is another plus over kearns or buck...im not counting on sizemore coming back this year...i think choo will but that isnt until end of august or maybe early september

My point exactly. You cannot be a "small-ball" team with over half of your lineup batting around .240 or below. Can you really rely on our lineup to collect 3 or 4 hits in an inning? By adding a power bat (I would even consider someone with 15+ homeruns a power hitter) in the middle of the lineup, Cabrera, Hafner, and Brantley can be more spread out in the batting order.

Well he's Francoeur with no power, but the sad thing is he's still an upgrade. We didn't give up much for him, so there's that. However I don't think he's going to get us the 6-7 more wins it will take to be there in September.

Pretty much sums it up. Though, honestly, he's not a significant upgrade over Buck. Seems like a move just for the sake of making one.

http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/stor...-cubs-trade-kosuke-fukudome-cleveland-indians

The 34-year-old Fukudome received the news shortly before the Cubs' game in Milwaukee against the Brewers. He left a closed-door meeting with Cubs manager Mike Quade, then shook hands or exchanged hugs with what were suddenly former teammates.
Through interpreter Hiro Aoyama, Fukudome said he knew little about Cleveland.
"Lake Erie is right next to it," he said. "I know it looks like Chicago."

Fukudome had a partial no-trade clause, precluding a trade to six teams, including the Indians. He said he was approached by the Cubs a couple of days ago about waiving the clause.
"It was a difficult decision to make," he said through an interpreter. "Not only because I was here a long time, but because it's a different league.
"My family said it was up to me, whatever decision want to make."
Antonetti confirmed Fukudome changed his mind on going to Cleveland.
"He had a handful of teams listed and we were one of them," Antonetti said. "I think he realizes he is coming to a team with a chance to play in the postseason."
