Cleveland Guardians (2025 Season Thread)

In the pre-Tito days we called this the Dumpster Diving! Cleveland did it so often that they actually got pretty good at it. Now we just say that they’re identifying pitchers that, with their superior organizational pitching development skills, they can fix and turn into a valuable asset! [Note that “fix” in this use does not involve the skill sets of Connor Stallions or former Astros administration staff.]

Or, maybe this guy was the secret programmer behind the Astros rules bending and Cleveland has gone to the Dark Side?

Spencer Horowitz Guardians Era
12/10/2024 - 12/10/2024

Ortiz had a 3.32 ERA 1.11 WHIP 107K/42BB in 135 2/3 innings last year. Can start or come out of the pen, looks like the pirates utilized him as a starter most of the 2nd half of the season. From what I read he's exactly the type of pitcher the organization can work their magic with. Only 25 too.

Hartle is a interesting flier prospect, guy was consider a 1st round talent until he bombed in his last year at Wake Forest and fell to the 3rd round.

HOPEFULLY they use that money they save from dumping the Gimenez contract to make some other moves.

It's not a bad salary dump if Ortiz can be a decent #4 type starter, that's something we needed. Still need a bat though.

In theory, these moves (along with trading Eli Morgan) opens up about $12.5M, so they should be using that to pursue a much needed bat. However, the reality probably is that these moves were made to recoup the payroll spent on re-signing Bieber.
