Cleveland Guardians (2022 AL Central Champs)

This team could go very deep in the playoffs. Like shown against the Rays' Shane McClanahan this season, their contact-hitting lineup can cause pitchers problems and an early exit. It seems like Morris and Plesac will be long relievers that can take over if one of their other 4 starters get into trouble early to keep the game close. The middle relievers of De Los Santos, Stephan, Sandlin, and Hentges have been good all season (and great as of late). Then throw in Karinchak and Clase for the final two innings and games could get very short for their opponents.

While I'm optimistic, I'm also cautious. The pitchers have sometimes been susceptible to the long ball and when the lineup can't get it going, they don't have the power bats to slug a few homers.

Nice job taking two out of three from the Rays.

Looking more and more like Tampa will be back in Cleveland next Friday. The Mariners, who are currently a half game up for the WC2 spot, close the season with seven total home games against the A's (3) and Tigers (4) while Tampa gets saddled with three at Houston and three at Boston.

Also, barring a complete throwing in of the towel against Kansas City, this team is going to win over 90 games. Pretty awesome.

As myself and Reds fans enjoyed 100-loss seasons, at least one team didn't shit the bed.

Good luck in the playoffs.

Did anyone predict the Guardians would win 92 games this year? Let alone win the division? Seriously. I need someone to do some research.

ESPN projected them to finish 77-85

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...ngs-playoff-odds-everything-need-all-30-teams

Sportingnews 67-95 (last in the Central)

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb...ngs-odds-projections/fma2piarlv1zx99jwbokqlb5

4/5 CBS sports "experts" had them either 4th or 5th in the division (one had them 3rd)

Looking deeper I can't find anyone who picked them higher than 3rd. Most AL Central preseason chatter was all about the White Sox & Twins.

These weren't "bad" predictions to be fair though. No one coulda seen this coming. They seemed to be limping into 2022 with a bunch of unknowns as a team after finishing under .500 in 2021.
