Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Not exactly apples to apples, but when in CLE, LeBron was very reluctant to play the “4” on the court…he was adamant he wanted to play SF. It wasn’t until he got to Miami, that Pat Rielly convinced him, he’d be a badass “4” if he embraced it. He wouldn’t start at the “4” but they’d play him 15-20 mins a game at the “4” and the numbers spoke for themselves when he played the “3” vs the “4” on the court.

All that to say….

Donovan Mitchell, if serious about winning a title, needs to shift down to PG. He’s a capable defender but it’s really hard to have a 6’4” SG next to a turnstile defensive PG in Garland. I could make the argument, the Cavs don’t even start their best starting roster when Garland starts at PG.

I’d rather have the defense of: Mitchell, Hunter, Strus, Mobley, Allen…..much better defensively and makes them capable of switching at all times versus the match-up nightmares they face when Garland is on court.

If Mitchell would commit to being a PG, I think CLE could shop Garland, and create a much better and balanced team….JMO.

Pacers/Knicks game 1 showed how physical each round of the playoffs gets. It was a battle. No easy rebounds, no easy drives.

I don’t see it from this Cavs roster right now. Regular season talented but it takes a different level of tough.
Teams play different in the playoff and I think the refs, at least this year, have let the guys play for the most part.

Oh goodie, that’s what this team needs, the Ball circus…that’ll cure ‘em
A little more in-depth analysis…

They can’t afford Ty Jerome so needed an established backup PG to Garland. Ball hasn’t been able to stay healthy last (3) years but they also took Tyrese Proctor in draft for depth and defensive presence.

You’ll notice both guys are 6’6” so Cavs recognized need to build defensive depth at PG behind Garland.

A little disappointing they won’t be able to retain Ty but I think a team is going to massively overpay. Also, the Cavs have an interesting short window in the East with Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton out next year with Achilles injuries. Early odds are Cavs and Knicks duking it out for Eastern Confernece.

I am not an advocate for destroying the long term of the Cavs for a one-year one-time shot at winning it all.. and paying LBJ $50M+
If he wants to do something crazy like rip up that contract that can keep Cavs intact and he'd have his best shot at one final ring... I'm in..

Same. If he gets a buyout and wants to win a title, I'd be more than happy to have him back for as long as he wants to suit up.
