Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Garland missed 4, FOUR!, playoff games because of a hurt toe.

Now, maybe it was pretty severe. But JFC, a HURT TOE.
I've been saying (not just me) that today's NBA is SOFT. I hear about a TON of star players missing time because of "injury" in the playoffs. Could you imagine Jordan, Bir, Magic, etc doing that? Hell Isiah Thomas played on a destroyed ankle.

It’s about CLE recent history too, though. Not saying you’re wrong, but the Cavs mailed it in with injuries last year as well. To me, it comes across as an excuse for not getting it done with what they have. Once Indiana made the comeback in Game 2, while Garland, Mobley, and Hunter were shown every other camera angle to be laughing it up on the bench, the series was effectively over…..but the players, regardless of what they say in front of cameras, won’t really feel any accountability bc of “injuries”.

Yes, the NBA has gone “soft” but the Cavs are among the softest, IMO. Incredible regular season roster that is talented and deep, but void of any heart and grit when needed in post-season. Knicks, Celtics, & Pacers have abused these guys last (3) years in post-season with way more physicality and heart.

Yeah, but it's not just Cleveland, though. Lot of stars missing time. Seems like anytime there's a little discomfort, the answer is just sit out. You didn't see that when the NBA was a real league unless a player was practically dying. It's pathetic.

Toady's NBA?

They took that 7ft vagaina Paul Pierce off the court in a fucking wheel chair at least 15 years ago.
I've said for a long time that 2003 draft class was like a poison injected into that league. I know Pierce predates that, but with that class, the composition of the league and style of play really seemed to shift. Everyone wanted to buddies after that and rivalries and competition withered away.

100% fair.

First group of kids that incorporated AAU team-making into a professional league…..and it was awful for the game.

I loved the NBA from Lakers/Celtics to about the end of Kobe/Shaq days.

I haven’t cared to watch much more than headlines and occasionally see it on in a bar kind of thing since. Couldn’t name a single player on a team beyond LeBron off top of my head.

It’s amazing how much it’s changed.
The NBA from the mid/late 80s through the early 2000s was probably the pinnacle of sports in my lifetime. Great players, fierce competition, amazing blood rivalries. Think of all of it - Bird/Magic, Jordan's Bulls, the Bad Boys, gritty Knicks teams, Hakeem & the Rockets, Kobe/Shaq Lakers...it was amazing. Great players were deeply associated with a fanchise. Now it's a bunch of super friends colluding to team up and manufacture championships and there are NO rivalries. Players team hop to a ridiculous degree. Hell Durant will probably have played for 1/3 the league when he's done. It's all iso and dribble around and chuck threes. Players regularly sit out 25% of the season for bullshit "load management" and miss playoff games/series because of an ouchie. It's a joke.
