Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

David Griffin seems to think LeBron's going to Philly. As long as it isn't Golden State or Boston (which it won't be), I'll be rooting for him. When he left the first time, it felt unfair. He had unfinished business in Cleveland, and The Decision was a disaster. We were sore about him leaving home to go play with his friends in Miami and chase titles. He spent four of the best years of his career there. But he came back and left it all on the table four years in a row. He secured that elusive title for the city of Cleveland and his place as the GOAT in the minds of many. To me, the guy has earned the right to do what he wants without any repercussions. He's beyond reproach.

I don't know about you all, but if LeBron wants to stay in Cleveland to keep his family in Ohio, I'm good with it. If he wants to go to Philly or Houston to beat Golden State, I'm good with it. If he wants to go to LA to become a billionaire and a movie star, I'm good with it. I hope, if he does leave, he gets the standing ovation he deserves when he comes back to play in the Q.

I was angry about The Decision for years, but the guy has done too much for Cleveland (both on and off the court) for me to hold whatever decision he makes next against him. He grew up in the limelight and made a few public mistakes along the way (a remarkably small number, really), but the pros far outweigh the cons. I'm a LeBron fan now.

Sorry for the mushy, sentimental post, but there's a fair chance that he'll be playing his last game as a Cavalier tomorrow night. I let that go unappreciated in 2010, and I don't want to make the same mistake in 2018.

I couldn't have said it any better, 100% this. I am rooting for LeBron no matter what he decides to do. Frankly, if I were him, no way I come back to this Cleveland team right now. If he jets, I honestly hope it is to Houston. LeBron, Harden and Paul would be fun to watch and would have a realistic shot at beating GS, which is about all that I can care about in the NBA right now to be honest.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He’s free to leave. That’s his right as a free agent. Just saying he can get fucked if/when he does. Pretty much means that SI essay was complete horseshit. Go ahead and leave. Have fun with the same end result you had three of the last four years. Only now, your mercenary strategy doesn’t look so good.

He looked bad the first time around. I think most people recognize that Cleveland is a disaster of a team and it would be an absolute waste of his talents to stay there.

I was really pissed when he left the first time, I think it is completely understandable if he left this time- he’s not getting any younger and Cleveland isn’t putting a competent team on the court any time soon.

The Cavs made the finals this year, beating two of the top five teams in the NBA to get there. The Cavs might not be as good as Golden State (who is?), but it's hyperbole to claim that this team is incompetent.
How many games do they win without LeBron? He isn’t getting any younger and he is forced to play practically the entire game constantly to carry the dead weight (other than Love, sometimes) surrounding him.

Who's the third reliably good player on the team? Not who is the 3rd great player, the kind of depth you find on other rosters. The third one that doesn't have a lot of weaknesses.

The Cavs won 50 regular season games and three playoff series without a reliable third option. Is that an ideal situation? No. But it is a sign of incompetence? No.

The Cavs' challenge will be to find a third reliable option without losing either of their two current reliable options (LeBron and Love). Can it be done? Yes, but it will be difficult. And it will certainly involve getting rid of the #8 pick in the draft. Look for a team with one good player that might take an unfavorable contract (Smith) and a high draft pick in order to enter full Philly tank mode.

I think it would be an easier sell if they had a good bench and they simply needed to trade out JR for a legitimate all-star or well-rounded next tier guy (ie Mike Conley, not that I'm advocating for that swap)
