Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Apparently it is official:

Dwyane Wade signs one-year, $2.3M deal with Cavaliers

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20839399/dwyane-wade-clears-waivers-signs-cleveland-cavaliers

Re: "I'm happy that we were able to keep him away from everybody else," James said after practice Wednesday. "It's a guy, come on, man, this is like one of my best friends. It's kind of like when you start school and you walk into the classroom and you're not quite sure who your classmates are and when you walk in there and one of your best friends is in there, you're like, 'Oh, yeah, this is going to be fun. It's going to be a good class.' That's the type of feeling I got."

Surprise...Surprise...LeBron approves of the signing.....:slappy:

Cavaliers to trade Richard Jefferson, Kay Felder to Hawks

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed in principle to send forward Richard Jefferson, guard Kay Felder, two second-round draft picks and at least $3 million to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told ESPN.

Cleveland and Atlanta are planning a trade call to finalize the agreement with the league office Friday night or Saturday morning, league sources said.
.
.
.
Sources said the draft picks going to Atlanta are 2019 and 2020 second-rounders and that the Hawks would send back European draft rights for two players in the deal.
.
.
.
Cleveland will create two trade exceptions ($2.6 million and $1.4 million) with the trade. The Cavaliers will have one year to use them.

The trade gets the Cavaliers' roster to 15 ahead of the start of the regular season. The Cavaliers will save $12.8 million in luxury tax by unloading the two contracts.

The Cavs got the win, but I didn't see a whole lot to like.

  • LeBron played 41 minutes, and Lue said he was "minutes restricted" this game. Same shit, different day
  • Kevin Love, who Lue said was reintegrated into the offense, took nine shots. Derrick Rose took 14
  • Derrick Rose sucks (as he has for several years)
  • Jeff Green sucks (as he has for his entire career)
  • Rose and Wade need to be removed from the starting lineup ASAP. We can't pull Rose until Thomas comes back, but Smith needs to start now. Wade's role has to be points off the bench at this point in his career, same for Rose
  • I'd like to see Cedi Osman play
  • The Cavs have been one of the two best teams in the league because of their three-point shooting. They need to get that back soon. They had 15 points off of threes tonight

Typical Cavs at home, build a big lead in the first half, get bored for a quarter and a half, try and pull it out at the end by overplaying certain guys. No killer instinct, or they could get up 25 and rest guys in the fourth quarter. They have nothing for the Warriors, and won’t.

IMO Lue is the big problem. Someone needs to take the more cowbell meme and replace Will Ferrell with Lue and the bell with LeBron. Nobody on this team should see more than 30 to 35 minutes.

I don't mind starting Rose and Wade now, but they need to sub Rose out for JR after 4 min then pull Wade after 6. Rest LeBron the last 4 of the 1st and first 4 of the second. I'd like to see a Rose, Shump, JR, Korver, TT unit to see if they can defend well enough. Green needs less time. Rose, Wade, and Green should never play together and should only shoot from 10 feet in.

See, and that’s what I really fear about this team with all the turnover. Guys watched what they had been doing shooting 3s, and expect to do the same. They were 5/22 last night from 3, and if Rose and Green start three point brickathons in the second and third quarters, they could have 6/35 nights. If they are going to overhaul the roster, they need to overhaul the offense, and they need to start playing some actual defense.

Meh, Its game one with 3 new starters, Love at the 5, and James not having really practiced for 3 weeks.

On the upside they were 21-25 at line.

The problems we saw last night aren't going away with reps, though. Rose, Wade, and Green are terrible three-point shooters. Those three played 74 minutes last night.

I honestly think Thomas might be a better defender than Rose at this point, so if he's able to come back and give us 75% of what he did last year, that will alleviate a lot of concerns. Wade and Rose were great in the first few minutes last night before Boston remembered that they don't have to respect the three and started clogging the lane. That's the issue. If you bring those two off the bench while LeBron/Love/Thomas rest, you're in good shape, especially if you surround them with guys that can shoot.

Ty Lue isn't exactly a basketball mastermind, though. Who knows how long it takes him to figure it out/if he figures it out at all. I took him a year and a half to start Love at the 5, and he never changed the speed of the game against Golden State (the best offensive basketball team ever) in last year's Finals.

I'm already worried that last year's team is the best team LeBron will ever have in Cleveland. It was going to be an uphill battle getting this roster to that point, but surrounding LeBron with four shooters is an unbeatable combination. I know he loves D-Wade, but putting Wade, LeBron, and Rose out on the floor at the same time is a waste.
