So Terrelle Pryor for Darrian Miller.
This just highlights the arrogance and stupidity of the Browns organization. At the time, they placed so much importance and created so much intrigue over the 53rd roster spot. They initially kept Pryor on the roster, and even created wildcat packages for him. Then two days later they cut Pryor and claimed Turbin off waivers, portraying him as some sort of secret weapon in the running game. Pettine then told the media that those Pryor wildcat packages had all been fake so that the Jets (the Browns' opening day opponent) would have to spend time scheming for them. Meanwhile, the Jets blew out the Browns by three touchdowns (proving that you don't need to scheme all that much in order to pummel a crappy team), Turbin had 18 carries for 60 yards (some secret weapon), and there are maybe 20 guys on the Browns' roster who can play. But the Browns were able to generate a good week of media attention over their 53rd roster spot.
As far as Terrelle Pryor goes, maybe he can play and maybe he can't. But the upside was so huge, why not take a chance? The Browns were going to be a 3-13 team with or without Pryor, so why not try to develop the guy? But oh no! That 53rd roster spot was WAY too important to waste on a developmental guy. They needed Seattle's fourth-string castoff to be their secret weapon in the running game (because they had already wasted high draft choices on busts like Montario Hardesty, Trent Richardson, and Terrence West). And now they end up with Darrian Miller (who?) in that coveted 53rd roster spot. Playoffs, here we come!
