Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

The back 7 on defense other than Ward is an issue and I don't know that getting injured players healthy will fix it. Maybe it will allow Woods to bring more pressure. The Cowboy's and Raven's have elite offenses that can put up points on anyone. Seattle is probably the best team in the NFC and we only gave up 7 more points to the Cowboys. The Browns have played 3 bad defenses in a row, but the offense has gotten better every game. I don't think Baker will every be more than an above average game manager, but if he can hit enough open receivers to keep the defense from stacking the box it will be enough for the offense to roll. When the run blocking is good enough that your practice squad RB can rush for nearly 100 yards and the team goes for over 300 you can play with pretty much anyone. Looking at their schedule the only good teams they play this year are the Steelers, Titans, and Ravens. I won't hold the opener Raven's dud against Stefanski since I figured it would take a few games for everything to start clicking given the limited offseason. Looking back at previous coaches Stefanski isn't making huge mistakes every game like Hue, Kitchens, etc. typically did. Play calling isn't perfect, but it's a missed play here or there rather than a 3 and out every series because they are trying to force the ball to OBJ rather than ram it down the defenses throat with the running game. I think yesterday was a huge win for the Browns that is going to change the dynamic of how they are looked at, but they have to keep winning. They have to keep getting better every game and bounce back when they hit adversity.

Johnson might not just be a practice squad running back. The way he handled a few of those weakside zone calls was Kamara-esque, actually. Kid can play and his improvement makes this the best RB room in the NFL (IMHO)

As for Stef, I'm cautiously optimistic. One thing I said moving forward was that this offense had to completely nix empty-sets. I didn't see a single one last week, so clear they're watching their own tape.

And the late game push to try and draw an off-sides before kicking the FG was something Freddie wouldn't have done last year because he was still a good bit overwhelmed. It was nice seeing a coach use every tool at his disposal. Because all it takes is some dumb lean-in by a 300lb dline and you get a cheap set of fresh downs late game. That was a good coaching moment.

FANS IN STANDS? It doesn't seem like Buckeyes are going to have fans in the stands this year, but it looks like Ohio's other teams will.

The Ohio Department of Health is allowing the Cleveland Browns to double the number of spectators allowed at games at FirstEnergy Stadium, to 12,000.

The stadium has a capacity of 67,895.

Lance Himes, the department’s interim director, outlined in an email sent late Monday afternoon that in addition to the 12,000 spectator limit, the following will be required:
  • Additional seating sections and concourse walkways will be opened to accommodate more spectators while ensuring that six-foot social distancing protocols are maintained.
  • Spectators will be directed to enter the stadium using the designated entrance that is closest to their assigned seat.
  • Spectators will be grouped in “pods” of predominantly 2-4 people with no grouping larger than 6 individuals who are all members of the same party/group.
  • Will follow the same operating standards and plans outlined in the original Cleveland Browns' Responsible Restart Plan.
  • Will coordinate/cooperate with Cleveland Department of Public Health to allow its representative(s) to be onsite during each game to assess compliance, how the team’s spectator plan worked and whether any modifications are needed.
...

On Sept. 5, Gov. Mike DeWine approved variances to the state’s public health orders for the Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.

Maybe the Big Ten will relax its stance and we will have some fans in the stands after all? I mean, with all that's happened this offseason, I'm a now very much a "never say never" kind of guy.

With 6K they didn't even use the upper deck for the first 2 games. I think any of these stadiums can hold 20-30K with enough distancing as long as the fans keep the masks on. Can probably raise it up to 60K for that Steelers game in January since it will be 20 degrees and everyone will want a mask on.

OBJ's natural reaction was still to get two-feet in on the catch for the TD...

Still, you would think an NFL player would be paying attention to what is going on at practice and not listening to music wouldn't you?
