Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

I think its a byproduct of (2) things......Owners who think they're way too knowledgeable about the sport and force bad decisions, and GM's who don't have the job security to know they can rebuild.

Andrew Berry is constantly in a "win now" mindset bc he knows he's in the hot-seat with Kevin Stefanski. At least one of them is getting fired at end of year (or sooner) so the impetus is on trying to win games, with truly one of the worst rosters in the NFL.

The focus should be on trading Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, Jerry Jeudy, David Njoku, etc. for whatever draft assets they could acquire. Punt on the next (2) seasons while the young talent gets their feet wet in NFL.

For the love of god, draft some high character guys (Caleb Downs for example) and inch by inch try and change the culture in the lockerroom.

The problem to do this, is acknowledging the last 4 years have been a miserable failure. And the egos and human nature to save your skin outweighs the obvious decision that needs to be made....which is to burn this roster to the ground and do a full rebuild.

It's actually quite simple, but they're incapable of it.

Don’t disagree with you @billmac91 it just seems that this is the modus operandi for this organization about every 4 or so years.

No that I’m a huge Stefanski fan but curious as to who you think they could bring in that would be a good fit?

I feel like Stefanski will get a job somewhere else and be successful if they fire him. The biggest problems are the ownership meddling and Berry having only one good draft in his time here. If every draft was as good as this past one, the Browns might actually be decent.

I'm a big Stefanski fan, but only recently think it's prob time he leaves. It sucks, because I don't think he wanted Watson, but it was shoved down his throat. Once they started having poor seasons, he lost more and more decision making, including having to give up play-calling.

The version of football they played at the start of his tenure in Cleveland, is not what they're doing anymore. I think it's obvious he's lost the interest of the lockrroom as well, so it's prob better for both sides to move on after this season.

In terms of who they bring in, it's tricky bc whoever they offer, will likely have multiple choices and Cleveland almost assuredly has to be option C or D. From the DeShaun Watson trade, to taking (2) QB's in the last draft...the fingerprints of meddling ownership that forces decision making you is all over Haslam.

My pipe-dream would be for the Browns to go all-in on a rebuild, trade our top players for draft assets, and then bring a younger guy in who can connect with this generation. Again, absolute pipe dream, but I'd want Jeff Hafley....has connections to Cleveland as an assistant, obviously had success at OSU, built up BC until he got tired of NIL in college, and has been a stud as DC for Packers. And he was an elite recruiter in college which may not mean much in NFL bc you don't recruit, but it shows how he's able to connect with younger people.

I'm not trying to take shots at former Buckeyes or just belittle current Browns players......but Denver couldn't wait to unload Jerry Jeudy...he was a lockerroom cancer. Ole Miss had no issue with Quinshon Judkins transferring to OSU....they were tired of his attitude and Lane Kiffin and Jaxon Dart basically helped him pack his bags. We know the drama around Sheduer and his family (and admittedly, I'm rooting for him, it's just, did Cleveland need the extra storylines in the lockerroom?). We know the history with DeShaun Watson... Isiah Bond is another one.......

There's prob 3 more examples I could cite, but the bottom line is Cleveland has been trying to accumulate talent while turning a blind eye towards culture. And honestly, when the face of the franchise was supposed to be DeShaun Watson, it's probably hard to hold anyone accountable anyways.

It's a mess and they should absolutely be looking to blow this roster up and accumulate as much draft capital as possible. Refocus on playoff contention after Watson's contract is completely off the books.

And BTW, that'd require fans and ownership to give the new HC some breathing room because they're going to be pretty rough until 2027-2028ish if executed properly.

But to earlier posters point, I'm not even sure why I give it this much attention....they won't do any of the above and we'll be having the same conversation next year.
