Season's highs, lows worth some reflection Dawson's bouncer Nov. 18, Edwards' 78-yard TD top list

While today's game against the San Francisco 49ers might not be the Browns' last of the season, it's time to reflect on 2007's highlights and lowlights.
As they climbed back to respectability, there were special moments to savor ? and some best forgotten ? for the Browns. Special teams coach Ted Daisher summed it up Friday when he said, ''We've definitely made the ESPN highlights a few times this year, that's for sure.''

I love Dungy, I really do, but right now I want to slap the taste out of his mouth for acting like this was preseason instead of playing the actual squad.. OF COURSE you were going to get beat if you play your benchwarmers.

The Browns Fan in me gives you the finger!
I think I'm in love. Great post and GO Brownies!

Its just that I know the Browns fan in everyone is tired hearing about next year...

I realize this 10 win season was unexpected, but the beginning of something special in Cleveland, I guess I so soon forgot this team only won 4 games last year. So I raise my glass to the Browns of Cleveland, may the 2008 draft be as fruitful and the previous, the off-season short and the 2008-2009 campaign end with more success than the magic that has been 2007.

This was the funnest year for me as a Browns fan since I was a wee lad in 1986. It's great to look forward to next season for a reason other than "It's gotta be better than this season". Now, please go sign some defensive linemen and figure something out at RB (I'd love for Jamal to stay, but his price is most likely gonna be too high. Michael Turner would be awesome). Now that the team is finally, definately moving in the right direction, I'm thinking Phil is gonna get it done. Oh, and God bless Chud for not running the FB sweep on 3rd down all year.

Browns rookie Brady Quinn played a series in the second quarter after Derek Anderson suffered an injured finger.

CLEVELAND -- The Browns put forth a solid effort yesterday in their 20-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers, but they could do nothing last night as the Tennessee Titans took the final AFC playoff spot.
The victory over the 49ers gave the Browns their first 10-win season since 1994 and a franchise-record 7-1 mark at home, but to make the postseason they needed the Indianapolis Colts to beat the Titans. It didn't happen.
The Titans (10-6) scored on their opening drive and went on to win 16-10.
Tennessee secured the second wild-card spot by virtue of a tiebreaker. It had a better winning percentage than the Browns (10-6) against common opponents, with wins over Houston (twice), Oakland and the New York Jets and a loss to Cincinnati. The Browns went 3-2 against those teams.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CLEVELAND -- Browns general manager Phil Savage said yesterday that the team has every intention of re-signing running back Jamal Lewis.
Lewis topped 100 yards for the fifth time this season with 128 yards on 26 carries yesterday in a 20-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Lewis finished the season with 1,304 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns overall.
Lewis, 28, signed a one-year deal with Cleveland and will become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Browns season over
Colts loss ends Cleveland hopes
By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Monday, Dec 31, 2007
A 20-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers wrapped up, Browns coach Romeo Crennel thought ahead seven hours.
Asked to pretend Sunday night's Indianapolis Colts-Tennessee Titans game had ended and to give his reaction, Crennel let out a loud, ''Yeaaaaah!''
And if the Colts lost and the Browns were shut out of the playoffs, despite finishing with a 10-6 record?
''I'm depressed. Boooo,'' he said.
Crennel went to bed depressed as Tennessee defeated Indianapolis 16-10 at the RCA Dome and captured the final AFC wild-card berth. The Titans (10-6) will face the San Diego Chargers (11-5) at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Qualcomm Stadium.

Bittersweet ending for Browns
Cleveland's remarkable season concludes with win over 49ers. Fans will talk about what could have been
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal sports columnist

Published on Monday, Dec 31, 2007

CLEVELAND: Somehow it just does not seem right.
The Cleveland Browns' season ended so suddenly.
Late Sunday night when Jim Sorgi and the rest of the backups had struggled and the Indianapolis Colts had lost to the Tennessee Titans, it was over.
The Browns will not go to the playoffs.
Despite a 10-6 record, the same as the AFC North Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
Despite a record seven wins at home.
Despite all the good things that had been accomplished, the Browns would go home while the Titans would plan for a playoff trip to San Diego.

Browns win, left out
Coach Crennel gets game ball as team salutes remarkable year
By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Monday, Dec 31, 2007

CLEVELAND: When he sat down in front of the microphone, Browns coach Romeo Crennel's eyes were still a little teary.
Minutes before, co-captain Willie McGinest had presented Crennel with the game ball. McGinest saluted Crennel for believing in his players when no one expected them to win more than three or four games this season.
Sunday's 20-7 victory over visiting San Francisco left the Browns 10-6, their highest win total since 1994 and a dramatic improvement from the 6-10 and 4-12 campaigns in Crennel's first two years. Crennel was touched by the remarks of the linebacker he has known since their glory days together in New England.

Cribbs keeps finding ways to impress
Pro Bowler returns 76-yard punt for touchdown and nearly does same with 94-yard kickoff return
By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Monday, Dec 31, 2007

CLEVELAND: Joshua Cribbs wouldn't accept Lennie Friedman's apology.
Friedman was flagged for holding during Cribbs' 94-yard return for a touchdown on the second-half kickoff, which would have given the Browns' Pro Bowler the rare double of a punt and kickoff return for a score in the same game.
Cribbs said he saw Friedman's block as he was running past and thought it was legal.
''He just gobbled his guy up,'' Cribbs said. ''He came to me and said, 'Sorry,' and I said, 'Sorry? You just crushed your guy. You can't ask for anything more. Keep doing it.' Those guys are so humble. They want to see me succeed to the fullest, and I just love their passion.''

Browns quarterbacks triumph over adversity
Anderson returns to game after injury. Quinn shows calm in NFL debut
By George M. Thomas
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Monday, Dec 31, 2007
CLEVELAND: Derek Anderson wasted a spectacular Joshua Cribbs punt return by throwing an interception, but the Browns quarterback said he wasn't about to flash back to last week's four-interception nightmare against the Cincinnati Bengals.
''It happens. If I throw the ball a foot higher, Kellen (Winslow) probably catches it for a touchdown,'' Anderson said of the first-quarter turnover. ''I didn't put enough air under it, but I had to move on. You can't dwell on it. You just got to keep playing (so) things turn out all right.''
The Browns went on to beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-7 in the team's season finale at Cleveland Browns Stadium, leaving them to do nothing but wait the outcome of the TennesseeTitans-Indianapolis Colts game Sunday night.

Browns get 10th win, but Tennessee is in

It had the makings of a perfect day for the Browns.
In fact, the day was pretty close to perfect. But it was spoiled by a bad night.
After the Browns completed a 10-6 season with a 20-7 win over San Francisco, they retreated to their homes hopeful of an Indianapolis win over Tennessee. It didn't happen.
About seven hours later, the Titans knocked the Browns out of the AFC playoff field with a 16-10 win over the Colts.
