Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

Heres a 3-round mock draft I came across:

They have us taking Kamerion Wimbley, Roderique Wright, and Babatunde Oshinowo, three defensive lineman in the first three rounds.

I really do think that Cutler or Young will be there at #12, and that a team behind us will jump the gun and trade up with us.

wimbley would play OLB, Wright DE, and Oshinowo NT, thereby addressing the front 7 rather well. If Wimbly is the pick, it wouldn't be a sstretch to see thompson move inside to fill Taylor's spot.

I could definately see someone trading up to #12 to take Cutler or Young, fully knowing that Baltimore is likely eyeing a qb at #13.

That mock draft looks like a joke. The Browns would be fools to pass up Bunkley for Wimbley, I don't mind Rod Wright, but I would like to see Kudla in the 3rd unless they think he'll be there in the 4th. I firmly believe that Kuds will be a starting OLB for the Browns at some point this season if they draft him. What do the Bengals fans think of Gabe Watson in the first?

No way would I pass up Cutler if he was there at #12. But, I'm still not sold that Young will be a good NFL QB.
Do you really think Browns fans would accept Cutler over Frye? I'd bet he gets booed every time he makes a mistake. I agree that someone would likely trade up to 12 to get Cutler knowing the Ravens will pick him at 13.

I like Wimbley, but I think he is a reach at #12.

The Chiefs seem to be the only other team in the top 20(and they have the 20th pick) that are really interested in him. Maybe we can trade down anywhere from the 13th-19th pick then take him, if they have him rated above Carp.

If the Browns trade down and take a OLB I would be upset with anyone other than Carp. I'm not a fan of drafting a DE and moving him to OLB because you don't really know how he will be able to cover. Carp has the whole package at OLB in a 3-4 because he has film that he can cover and put his hand on the ground to rush the passer. Who knows if a guy who played DE his whole career in college will be able to cover like an OLB has to do? I wouldn't gamble a first round pick on a guy that has a ? at the position you want him to play.

I agree with you, but I think that converting a 4-3 DE to a 3-4 OLB is a hot thing right now. Shawn Merriman is just another example of that.

For some reason Savage hasnt really talked about Carpenter, meanwhile reports are that he is drooling at the thought of drafting either Bunkley or Wimbley. Hopefully he is really interested in Carpenter, and is just keeping quiet about it.

Hopefully. You never want people to know what you're thinking i.e. Butchie trading up for the Solja or the Ravens wanting a QB if Cutler is there at 13.

With all the talk of Cutler or Young being available by the time the Browns pick, I figured I'd chip in my two cents. I expect change.

If Cutler falls to us, I'd hope for a trade. I wouldn't draft him because, as someone stated earlier, he'd get booed off the field for Frye.

If Vince freaking Young is availabe, I draft him. Hell, I don't even entertain trade offers. Young is special. He's a game changer. I'd draft Young and trade Frye for future picks. I could care less how ugly his release is, we seemed to do well with a certain sidearmer if I recall correctly.

I disagree with the Young part.

I think he can become a star in the NFL, but he is a project and it will take him time. I think we have to draft defense, and lots of it in this draft.

LT-Schaffer
LG-Andruzzi
C-Bentley
RG-Coleman
RT-Tucker

QB-Frye
FB-Smith
TB-Droughns

WR-Edwards
WR-Jurivecous(spelling?)
TE-Winslow

I think offensively we are in good shape. Our line will be sizably improved from last year. Frye should also improve in his second year. Droughns is a good tailback, and Suggs and/or Green should be able to step up and be a legit back-up. Assuming that Edwards and Winslow come back from injury they will be two recieving threats.

Defensively we should also be improved, but the Browns biggest problem is stopping the run. We need to add depth at virtually every front seven position, along with upgrading our second DE spot, and our second ILB spot, probably an OLB spot also. We also need to get a young NT so that he can be groomed under an aging Washington. Our secondary is actually one of the better positions on the team.

3. Rod Wright 6'5" 300 lbs. 5.06(maybe a DE)
4. Babatunda Oshinowo 6'2" 304 lbs. 5.33

9. Gerald Anderson 6'2" 315 lbs. 5.43
10. Kwakou Robinson 6'4" 331 lbs. 5.40

Its very important that we get one of those above.

Top DE's in the draft

1. Brodrick Bunkley 6'3" 306 lbs. 4.94
2. Orien Harris 6'3" 301 lbs. 5.27
3. Barry Cofield 6'4" 304 lbs. 4.94

10. Manase Hopoi 6'4" 290 lbs. 5.20

Its hard to rank the DE's, but I rated them as how well they will fit into the Browns schemes. I think we should take probably two of the above, but definantly one.
