Rugged Andruzzi earns high praise

Crennel shows great trust in his veteran guard

By Patrick McManamon

Beacon Journal sportswriter

BEREA - If Browns coach Romeo Crennel had to walk across the Himalayas in shorts and sandals, he'd probably want Joe Andruzzi by his side.
Crennel time and again shows faith of the fathers in Andruzzi.

BROWNS INSIDER
NFL turns attention to Winslow, fines him for late hit

Saturday, December 16, 2006

Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was fined $5,000 by the NFL on Friday for his unnecessary roughness penalty against Pittsburgh linebacker James Farrior on Dec. 7.
The fine comes one day after Steelers linebacker Joey Porter was fined $10,000 for calling Winslow a name used as a slur against gay men - remarks that were prompted by Winslow's hit on Farrior.

Browns down to final shot to win in division this year

Sunday, December 17, 2006
James Walker
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

BEREA, Ohio ? The Cleveland Browns could make history today, and it?s not the type of history they would be proud of. With a loss today to the Baltimore Ravens (10-3), the Browns would go winless in their division for the first time since joining the NFL.

Inability to beat
teams in division
hurting Browns
? Reader Dave Patterson reports that he has gone back through stats to 1970 and has not found a season when the Browns failed to win a game in their division. It can happen, if they lose to the Ravens today at Baltimore. Even Chris Palmer was 2-2 against the Steelers, but 3-25 versus everyone else.
? Joe Hetzel (Brunswick) wrote that the Browns were 5-5 out of their division a year ago, and they are 4-4 out of the division this year. Not bad. Only they are 1-10 in their division under Romeo Crennel in that span. Hetzel believes because the AFC North is so tough, the Browns almost need to go 8-2 out of the division to make the playoffs.

McManamon on the Browns

Players don't want a coaching change

Some do think Romeo Crennel needs to take a firmer stance on discipline

By Patrick McManamon

BALTIMORE - Some of the numbers of Browns coach Romeo Crennel's tenure have not been pretty.
Ten wins in almost two seasons. One win in the AFC North. Embarrassing losses. Dirty shoes. Failure to pick up gum wrappers in the hallway.
But talk to the players, and one theme comes through: They do not want a change in coaches during this offseason.

It hovers near zero for Browns in North

Sunday, December 17, 2006

Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter

Baltimore- The old Browns, otherwise known as the Ravens, can clinch the AFC North with a victory today in Baltimore, while the new Browns are looking to avoid going winless in the division for the first time in team history.
If the Browns lose today, they'll be 0-6 in the AFC North.
Even in the 1999 expansion season, one of their two victories was over the Pittsburgh Steelers. And in their 3-13 seasons of 1990 and 2000, they beat Pittsburgh in 1990 and Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in 2000.
