In a strange coincidence, The Browns used the pick gained from passing on Haloti Ngata to grab another defensive tackle. In this case, they may have landed a player who - while not in Ngata's class - may help Browns fans quickly forget passing on the big nose tackle from Oregon...

Berea - Ironically, the Browns took a nose tackle with the pick they obtained in the trade with the Ravens that allowed Baltimore to select Haloti Ngata.
They selected Babatunde “Baba” Oshinowo from Stanford. The 6-1, 302 pounder had 143 tackles in his career with 15 sacks and 30 tackles for loss, including 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 2005.
Oshinowo has played some in the 3-4, even though Stanford employed the 4-3 scheme.
“One of the things I've done as a defensive tackle is we've played the 3-4 a couple of times,” he said.
Oshinowo was listed by some publications as a first day draft choice.
“I can't tell you what happened,” he said. “On the first day I think only a few defensive linemen were drafted so teams concentrated on the other positions. I'm very excited to prove people wrong.”
Oshinowo admitted his performance at the combine might have caused his stock to drop.
“I thought I could've done better at some of the drills, but I don't think the combine was the best representative of my abilities,” he said. “I'm a football play and I'm excited to play football.”
If nothing else, Oshinowo has quite an interesting story about his name. His full name is Babatunde Oluwasegun Temitope Oluwakorede Adisa Oshinowo, Jr.
“It's a Nigerian name,” he said. “My parents are first generation immigrants. Everyone had a name for me like my aunt or grandmother and all those names get tacked on.”

I'll add Huston to the guys the Browns should sign list. I think Huston's strong leg would allow him to kick off while he gets used to kicking the pro ball. I don't think Huston is going to develop pro accuracy with the new ball for a year or 2. This is all if the Browns would be willing to carry 2 kickers. At least Huston can punt as well so he could be a backup for both positions.

Good idea.

Dawson doesnt have a strong kick-off leg at all.

So, for the most part, is everyone happy with who the Browns drafted.

After seeing most of my bitching about not picking Kudla was unwarranted it was probably a good draft. There are several picks that don't really make sense, but I shouldn't judge until I see the guys in action. The main thing that I see that I don't like is that the Browns did nothing to fill the hole at DE. That's why I wanted Bunkley in the first round. IMO he is a bigger impact player next year. The Browns hopefully solidified the LB's for years to come, and it also looks like they drafted the eventual replacement at NT. {fingers crossed} Maybe they see enough in Fraser that they didn't really need another DE right now. I still want to see who they get as a UFA. Kudla, Everett, Nance, and Huston would make me very happy.

Browns | Savage tried trading up to No. 5 overall

Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage said the team called the Green Bay Packers several times in an attempt to move up to No. 5 overall in the NFL Draft. He added the Packers were content to stay where they were to make their selection, which they used on Packers LB A.J. Hawk.

How awesome would that trade have been?

As much as I would have loved to have had AJ, that would have been an incredibly stupid move. One great big piece of gum won't fix several holes.

The Hawk move would have been great if we had also picked up a pass rusher. I'm thrilled with the first two selections. As for the rest, they were selections of need. We needed another receiver. We needed a new scat back to replace the useless Lee Suggs. We needed depth at the offensive and defensive line. The only question picks I have was the choice of receiver and the fullback.

But ask me in three years if I'm happy with the draft and I'll give you a better answer then. Hell, I was practically doing backflips when we draft Kellen Winslow. He may pan out, but until then...

The Browns new fullback brings skill as a pass receiver to the Browns...

</TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=3>
Berea – The Browns used their sixth-round pick (180th overall) to select fullback Lawrence Vickers from Colorado.
Vickers said he’s not only a good blocker, but can be an asset catching the balls out of the backfield. He caught 70 passes for 572 yards at Colorado, including three touchdowns.
“One of the things I do well is to catch the ball,” he said. “I’ve spent a lot of time practicing catching a golf balls or tennis balls in drills. It was something my dad did with me when I was young and the coaches in high school and college used it to.”
Vickers knows there will be competition with Terrelle Smith and Corey McIntyre already on the roster.
“I don’t know that much about (Smith) but I want to come in and learn all I can from him,” Vickers said. “He’s played in the league awhile, so I know I can learn from him.”
Vickers was only the 10th player in Colorado history to gain over 500 yards rushing and receiving during his career. In addition, to his receiving yardage, Vickers gained 635 yards rushing, including 12 touchdowns.
“I was looking to go higher but I believe everything happens for a reason,” he said. “It doesn’t matter now, I’m a Cleveland Brown.”
