Cincinnati Reds 2023 (sell the team Bob)

I don't want to put way too much pressure on this kid but the following description of him sure reminds me of a pretty decent pitcher.

He's a polished right-hander with a quality four-pitch mix, including a pair of low-to-mid-90s fastballs and a good changeup. Lowder has plus control and this season he generated more than 50% grounders for the first time in his collegiate career. He might not have the loftiest ceiling -- in part because he's already optimized his game at Wake Forest

The pitcher I was thinking of is Greg Maddux.

Why the Reds took him here: Lowder might be the safest starting pitcher in this draft as a polished big-school starter with three above-average pitches. The big question here is if he has enough stuff to be a top-of-the-rotation ace or if he ultimately settles in as more of a No. 3 or No. 4 starter. But no matter Lowder's ceiling, he should get to the majors quickly and that has become even more important since Cincinnati has vaulted itself into contention this season. -- Mullen

Hot damn this kind of talk gets me excited!
