Cincinnati Reds 2023 (sell the team Bob)

Verlander is 40. I don't love it especially if we're giving up any future stars. A bunch of filler players and some cash and I can go for that. If Greene comes back dealing, I say we sit tight on that situation and take a good look at Hicks from the Cardinals for the bullpen.

If Maile keeps hitting like this Casali is definitely Oscar Mike.
Verlander would certainly pique my interest not only for his experience and ability but his presence in the locker room, dugout and/or bullpen being a player-coach to all these pups. That veteran peer presence is what Greene, Abbott, and especially Ashcraft really need.

Can’t believe a game that featured two starters with ERAs in the 7s ended 3-2.

Missed it because Sheryl Crow was playing a concert in my little po-dunk town to close out the Lancaster Festival, and even at 61, she was fucking amazing.
I almost went to that. Three table tickets became available today from a friend, but I ultimately declined. I'm sure she was great. I can actually usually hear the concerts there from my house, but not this one.

Reds pitchers never seem to back down when they should just put their dangerous hitter on with a BB. Throw ball 4 to Muncy 3' outside and get the next hitter for out #3.

Both homeruns to Muncy were the result of Weaver just missing his spot (by a lot).

They were going up and in to Muncy where he has almost zero chance of ever making contact, let alone driving one (see his ~.200 BA for evidence). Weaver missed both times and threw a BP fastball where that fat, leprechaun looking POS could tee off on it. He wasn't trying to challenge him with a fastball right down the middle (as I have seen opined in some places).

Absolutely. That tub o' lard would not have hit one 3' outside. Ball 4, take your base, and be careful waddling down to first base fat ass. I'm not too upset about the first home run since the pitch was moving away and down, just was a bit too high still and not far enough away. I tipped my hat. But the second one - no reason to do that.

It's an upsetting tendency for the Reds to get hammered, when it could easily be avoided, over and over by the other team's best - Matt Olson, Altuve, Tatis, etc... This rolly polly piece of crap, all he can do is hit home runs - put him on first and it will take 3 gap shots to get him home. So of course, let's give him an opportunity to put his weight into one (two) and hit it out so he can just walk to home.

So I was just thinking about Reds baseball while having breakfast this morning and I really believe that EDLC will be the first player in history to reach 50/50. Then I just happened to check into that and damned if my favorite ever ballplayer didnt pop up in this article:

A 50-100 season? Eric Davis could've done it
“Once you can’t hit any more home runs or strike any more guys out, trust me: They forget about you.”
Eric Davis was addressing the University of Northern Colorado’s baseball team after last January's Friends of Baseball Breakfast of Champions youth fundraising event in Greeley, Colo.
After speaking to a few hundred people at the annual program, which has featured All-Star and Hall of Fame players, managers and executives since its inception in 1988, Davis was bestowing upon the UNC players the wisdom he gained from a 21-year professional baseball career, including 17 seasons in the Major Leagues.

Talk about untouchable and heartbreaking that his Reds career was cut short. :sad2:

This quote is just, ridiculous:
In 430 Minor League games from 1980-85, he had a .907 OPS with 78 homers and 213 steals, overcoming a slow start to leave the Reds organization marveling at his incredible abilities.
:yow2:

Cardinals have dealt Montgomery, Stratton, and Hicks, the Pirates have traded Santana to the Brewers, and the Mets appear to be throwing in the towel. Of the final 20 games of the season, only five (Twins x3, Guardians x2) will be against teams currently .500 or better, and those two combined are just one game over. Virtually everyone else in that 20 game block is selling.

The flip side is that of the next 35 games before we get there, 29 are against teams with winning records or no worse than 2nd place in their own divisions and competing for a division crown or a WC spot.

The next five weeks are make-or-break time.
