Cincinnati Reds 2018 season (It's that time of year again)

Also desclafani with a fantastic start tonight...only blemish was the laser shot bomb he gave up to alonso

Discos been great, and Mahle and Castillo might be something. Not sold on Romano. SHTF day comes when Harvey gets traded since Baileys been recast in the pen in Louisville and Hunter Greene is two years away. Bullpen is already exhausted and it’s gonna get worse in late July when Harvey gets dealt with nobody in the wings.

Been a fun ride these last six weeks, but Rigglemans micromanagement of the pen like every game is Game 7 of the WS is starting to blow up.

Man....if the bullpen hadn't shit the bed those 3 days in Chicago, they'd only be 4 games under .500 right now.

So many ways to play that What If? game. Just recently, there's the two blown leads vs the Cubs, the one against the White Sox, and the one on the road in Atlanta.

There's the 16 losses by one run.

And my favorite, there's the fact the Reds are 1-9 against the Cardinals.

Reds record vs teams not named the Cardinals: 40-42
Cardinals record vs teams not named the Reds: 38-42

I was trying to remember how Suarez came to the Reds from the Tigers and had to look it up. They got him (plus another prospect who has been a turd) for Alfredo fucking Simon. :slappy:

That led me down a rabbit hole with some other trades over the last couple years.....
-Scott Schebler + Jose Peraza + Brandon Dixon from the Dodgers in the Todd Frazier trade....yeah, that's a win
-Anthony Desclafani + prospect from the Marlins for Mat Latos....another win even if just getting rid of Latos.

-Adam Duvall + Keury Mella for Mike Leake....meh. Duvall has at least been a contributor, but you should get more than that for a guy like Cueto

-Luis Castillo + Austin Brice from the Marlins for Dan Straily....TBD, I guess? Castillo has shown signs of being decent and Straily was never going to be a long-term piece.
-Dilson Herrera + from the Mets for Jay Bruce.....another TBD? Maybe Herrera turns out to be decent, but I'm not holding my breath.

-Brandon Finnegan + Jon Lamb + Cody Reed from the Royals for Johnny Cueto....what a bunch of bums
-I'm not even going to name the individual turds in the steaming pile the Reds got back for Chapman.

This could go down as an all-timer.

Big Pasta was headed to arbitration off a career year for a team trending the other direction headed for a rebuild. On a one-year deal he led the Tigers staff in Ws despite an ERA over 5.00. The Reds got him back the following year for nothing via FA and he's now out of MLB and pitching in Mexico.

Suarez just signed a seven-year deal for $66 million in March. He's 26. The Reds may have the best 3B in the NL locked up until 2024 for peanuts, and he's not even reached his prime.

And don’t look now but the GM says the Reds are going to significantly expand their payroll next year!

some soon-to-be invalid is going to get a big contract!

I'm guessing they get into a bidding war with themselves and massively overpay Harvey.

I'm not guessing when I say, whoever it is, it will not go well.

Arenado's better....but getting Suarez for Simon is hilarious...
