That Woodward-La Salle rumor...

It's not true.

Word on the street -- well, the Internet chat boards -- is that Woodward might forfeit its final football game of the season vs. La Salle. Something about not having enough players because of academics or a full moon or the bird flu, or something like that.

I asked Woodward AD Jamal Walker if the rumors were true. When Walker stopped laughing, I can attest his answer was , "No." As in, Game On.

La Salle coach Tom Grippa also confirmed the obvious: "We're playing it. I don't know how that got started."

Elder at La Salle

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at La Salle HS, 3091 North Bend Road.
RECORDS: Elder 2-2 (0-0 GCL-S), La Salle 3-1 (0-0).

WHAT TO WATCH: Elder allowed 471 total yards in last week's 34-17 home loss to Lakewood St. Edward. Offensively, Panthers QB Nick Zeiser accounted for 194 total yards. Elder must tighten up defensively, especially with La Salle QB Tyler Sheehan (Bowling Green recruit) returning. Sheehan broke a collarbone in the season opener. La Salle junior QB Brian Jacob has started in Sheehan's absence. Last week, Jacob rushed for 110 yards and one TD and threw for 51 yards and another TD in a 34-0 win at Louisville Butler.

BOTTOM LINE: La Salle has not beaten Elder since 1992. The Lancers believe they can break through this time, but Elder holds the psychological edge of 12 straight wins in this series.

Sometimes stuff like this doesn't get posted, but I think it's important...

The Enquirer - Ohio prep insider

LA SALLE SEEKS VETS: La Salle athletic director Dan Flynn said the school will honor military veterans at Friday's home football game against Cleveland St. Ignatius.

Just before the 7:30 p.m. kickoff, members of the Selection

.com jump team will parachute into the stadium with a 3,500-square-foot flag while the band plays the national anthem. After the anthem, members of the Thank You Foundation will present honorees with a certificate honoring their service.

La Salle seeks to honor alumni veterans, those serving active duty, members of the National Guard and reservists. To participate, please e-mail dflynn@

lasallehs.net by Thursday, and your name will be put on a pass list. At halftime, a second parachute jump will be made with pyrotechnics.

Well, it looked like LaSalle was primed to upset St. Iggy's tonight... Up 20-19 with under 2 to play... Then Iggy goes on a long drive in the final minute and a half... Nails a 30-yard field goal with 9 seconds left to win 24-20 (they got a safety on the kick-off)...
Heart breaker for the Lancers...
